What's funny? And who is this 'they' to whom you refer? Fact is, this s a law that this applies to everyone, even if it is widely flouted by too many companies.

They, being the Muslim staff.

If a 'Law' is not enforced then there is really no point to having it - especially if even Government owned companies ignore it.

Not sure why Dubai/Sharjah government staff have to work only 5 hrs a day during Ramadan whilst Abu Dhabi folk must work 6. Maybe Ramadan's just that little bit harder on people north of the AUH border?

Surely it couldn't be that the AUH civil servants take their jobs more seriously?

At my place (a bank) it is an absolutely unbreakable rule that ALL staff work the reduced hours, Muslim or non-Muslim. One important reason is that both are expected to fast in the office - there is no private room where us whiteys can go and gorge ourselves............

I've been given 50/50 advice here from our staff. A drink, snack or ciggy and we won't upset fellow staff who are understanding of our situation as much as we don't wish to upset them. I'll not take the chance though, there's a certain access door open to a rarely used outside enclosed area I'll be utilising for the duration.

Do I (or anyone in the same situation) have any right to be a bit miffed at having to work full hours?

I mean, if you moan and say it's illegal, you just look like a slacker....

I would be a bit miffed about it if I was you and everyone else was ****ing off early. As it happens I will be in the hammock by 1pm after working 6 hours, so you can feel good about that on my behalf.

We (including the Muslim staff) are still doing our normal 12 hours, mostly outside.
