Why on earth do they have such an asinine law? Even for the Gulf it makes no sense.

Over the course of your driving career you will avoid trouble by slowing down far more times than you ever will by accelerating. So how come nobody ever says "I prefer something with really good brakes to get me out of trouble"?
No it's not bollocks. I've now been driving for 38 years average about 14000 miles a year in dozens of different countries and had only 1 accident (says he, tempting fate) which was a former Yugoslavian guy in Germany rammed into the side of me coming out of a sidestreet without looking. Yes braking is the norm for collision avoidance but there have been many occasions when a judicious quick burst of speed gets you out of trouble. Especially out here on the roundabouts!

Typically overpowered cars have better brakes though, too.

Top gear once did a test of trying to stop a 911 and a Range Rover from 100mph. There was a good 100m difference in the stopping distance.

My Fortuner has plenty of power, but at 2 tonnes utterly shit brakes. Probably the worst of both. Still, I do find the power useful, and yes it does get you out of trouble. It is up the driver to decide if they want to use the power to get themselves in or out of trouble.

Wrong....I remember going home to the ranches before the interchange was there. The small roundabout was (literally) lethal and you needed something with a bit poke to get round it safely.

This is possibly one of the most ridiculous rules i've heard ( actually No I have heard loads but this is up there). Why on earth are certian nationalities not allowed SUVs- how can they control any car that anyone owns. Surely if you can afford it the car it's yours... this place makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! Brain hurts smilie

I was referring to decent ones, not shitty american ones with crap brakes and suspension.

because the locals get up to no good with the ladies in the big cars. Force them into a small car and there is less back seat action.

Silly rule really - you just use the front seats not the back.

What a load of crap, I had a mini (a proper one) as a teenager and you can still get up to mischief if you want to.

Maybe they should make all single men drive convertibles without the roof so they can be watched at all times. Or maybe they should just draw a big line down the middle of the country and put all men in one half and all women on the other. What a crock of shit

Perhaps you are more flexible and nimble than the local lasses? Or have less exacting automotive brand requirements?

Reminds of a 1 riyal note I got once with arabic writing all over it. I showed a colleague who started smirking. When I asked what it said he replied "it's about a love story in the back of a GNC"

Yeah, how can you write something like this when power is essential.

The other day I was rushing to get into roundabout into the fast incoming traffic and suddenly a land cruiser came from the inside at the high speed aiming towards the same free space I was aiming at. I floored the Tahoe and flipped it on the side on two wheels and the land cruiser did the same so we were able to use the same lane and avoid the crash. At the same time a Golf GTI buzzed underneath catching the brief moment both Tahoe and land cruiser were in the air. The kids remained fast asleep. Obviously without the recent improvement of twin charger boosting the BHP from 320 to 460 something like this would not have been possible and probably I would have had to resort to breaking.

A friend had one of those dreadful ex-Yu evolution's of Fiat 500 and he regularly serviced lady friends in it. He is 6ft 8.
