No Eid Holiday?
Does anybody know if the private sector will be getting any days off next week? My boss says that Eid will comprise Friday-Saturday only (a weekend) whereas I understand that the public sector gets 3-4 days off depending on whether Eid starts on Friday or Saturday. In Saudi we used to get a real holiday unlike here where such things are a pipe dream it seems.

Seems that public sector employees may have an extra day, but it is all so vague. See today's Gulf News

Using astronony it is possile to know the movement of the moon years ahead, so why can't this be used instead of some bloke squinting out of a window? Tradition is all well & good. but this is disruptive to both people and businesses.

UAE labour laws state that all employees are entitled to two days paid holiday in respect of Eid Al Fitr. The accepted interpretation however, is that that Friday and Saturday are appropriate days.

They only told us last week what the dates were... Mind you, everyone is on Eid wind-down anyway. They may as well have given us the whole damn week off....
