That's a bit of an understatement 
It probably won't take long before the new phones are cracked, but personally I wouldn't buy one until I was 100% sure it was possible. Given what the DevTeam have done with stuff like iPwner, though, it wouldn't surprise me if the first cracked iPhone 3G is reported within 24 hours of them going on sale

Just dial 124 from your iPhone and follow instructions, then on iPhone go to EDGE settings, APN is etisalat.ae and username/password are both mnet.

Btw - 50mb per month is nothing. You'll do that in a couple of weeks easy. Then the high charges start. And Edge is awful too.
It will be difficult (and pointless) to crack the iPhone right now as Apple are forcing retailers to activate the devices in store. ie - if you don't have a contract, you can't buy the phone as it needs to be activated before you go home.
That will stop a flood of unlocked phones coming onto the market. There are plans for an unlocked version later this year or early next year but it will come at a hefty price.
