New iPhone

So... the long awaited iPhone is due for release on Friday in the UK.

I've been getting text messages last week from O2 informing me to "watch this space", and then this morning at 8:15 I get another message saying that I need to get my butt online to place an order.

So, with laptop at hand I follow the instructions only to find the website keeps crashing.. and so I try again.. and again.. and again. Well you get the message.

Come Friday, either I will have about 40 iPhones landing on my doorstep (if the website processed my orders), or I'll be marching down to the O2 store to get my hands on the new gadget.

Fingers crossed they have it in stock!

I ordered a phone on line from O2 once and they sent me an e-mail the next day saying it was out of stock. They took the money off my card tho.
Had to wait 2 months to get my money back and countless calls to them to complain.:curse:

Am sure yours will be fine..............:D

Yes, if you want to access the internet using EDGE rather than wifi you have buy the Etisalat data package, which is charged at insanely high rates for what it is.

Just got it - 50mb is 95dh a month to get EDGE. So far so good.

People in US queuing already for the new ones, UK sold out a few days ago.

Thanks for that. But, could you explain how this works? Excuse my ignorance. Will it cost me more than 95dh a month? or is that a base monthly charge exclusive of everything else?

Nobody has figured out how to unlock the iPhone 3g unofficially yet, though, as far as I know...

yeah thats the thing, I'm back in the UK in august and I deeply want one, but will it need to be unlocked for me to bring it back to Dubai and use it over here?

And will I need a new Etisalat Sim / Data card and can I transfer my number?

you need it unlocked to be able to use the sim card over here
and then you can just swap it over with the sim you have now and keep the same number.

Or you can get a contract in the uk and use it over here which will prob cost you more. Then you will have a change of number as it will be a new sim.

Took Mr Stars new phn to uk could not unlock it because it was too new and the unlocking codes had were not on line....

That's a bit of an understatement ;)

It probably won't take long before the new phones are cracked, but personally I wouldn't buy one until I was 100% sure it was possible. Given what the DevTeam have done with stuff like iPwner, though, it wouldn't surprise me if the first cracked iPhone 3G is reported within 24 hours of them going on sale
