Moral dilema question

What would you do if a friend was charged and jailed for multiple sexual assaults?

Re: Moral dilema question

Make sure they learn their lesson with jail-time. Forgive them if they are truly repentant but disown them if they are not.

Have they been convicted, or just charged?

What does your conscience tell you to do?

wellmy initial reaction was disbelief and shock as I would never have expected him to behave like this, but he pleaded guilty. My instant reaction is to walkaway from him but as a friend its hard to just leave him when he is going through this- even though he deserves everything.

Were the assaults all on the same person?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

That's awful :(. I guess had it been one victim, then I would be less inclined to walk away as it could have been a 'misunderstanding', for instance (I studied Law, so know that things are not always clear cut).

However... four victims and he pleaded guilty... I would find it very hard to support a friend who had done this. Sorry.

yes lala it is awful. its so hard to imagine someone you know to do anything like this, even when they admit it- its very hard to comprehend

When it comes to a persons perception of what arouses them and what is morally acceptable to them in that arousal, that is a leopard that doesn't change it's spots.

To be honest, I'd cut ties - 3 years inside will probably do that naturally anyway. Failing that, I'd only ever go out with them in large groups.

Re: Moral dilema question

Did he plead guilty because it would mean he got a lesser sentence or was it because he was truly sorry for what he'd done? How well do you know him? If you had no idea he was capable of such a thing and he's being punished for what he's done then I don't see why you couldn't remain friends

Horrible situation....if he's a nonce then obviously it's a no brainer and let's hope he gets napalmed while inside. Come to think of it, I'd say it's a no brainer all round. Hope he's not a an ex of yours - that could really make you rush for the bath with a scrubbing brush.
