In simple terms...I see boundless hypocrisy here. Westerners are demonised as being morally corrupt, and an affront to local sensibilities, yet dozens of people I meet here would desperately like to have a Brit/US/Canada/Aus passport/education/health care system.

You've missed the point. You have to read comments about how shoddy everything is in this part of the world, and be the butt of jokes as well. If the line is ever crossed, you get told that you're being a baby. That's why the same opld people stay here and post all kinds of rubbish- new people get sick of them. Say anything that might upset Margaret Thatcher, and you're in trouble.
