Re: Machete attack in London
yes the victim was white and it has been mentioned in a few of the reports.
However I disagree Millhouse, I think the colour of the victim would not be relevant to this crime as it was so public and so shocking. It was a 20 minute attack on the poor soul in a street in London in the middle of the day. He was beheaded and then had his body dragged into the middle of the road where the men responsible continued to attack the body and gave interviews etc. It is barbaric and I think no matter what the colour of the victim the responce would have been the same. |

Do you actualy know anything about the EDL and their hate campaigns? Just because something is not a crime, doesn't mean it isn't wrong. Take a look at their website.
On the front page they are saying they are 'at war'. They have a forum which is for members only. I can only guess at what is being posted, but I'm willing to wager it's racist and bigoted. I know what they're made up from and what is their agenda is , the infighting , the drugs, the football hooligan connections and their recruiting grounds. A mickey mouse mob of wankers who have about as much use as a warm Kit Kat . The EDL didn't machete anyone to death on the streets yesterday . |

I know quite a bit actually , probably a lot more than most people here . The EDL are quite strong in the area that i grew up in and their influence is getting stronger . I went to school and grew up with two senior members of that organization , one now serving 5 years for firearms offences and the other on constant anti-terrorism surveillance , pretty horrible fellas .

I think you need to read their opening page more closely. Their views are mirrored in many of the posts here: failure of the Muslim community to deal with extremists; campaign against the spread of extremism; we are at war (isn't that the exact phrase that both US and UK governments have used?).
The phrase 'at war' as used by the governments refer to other issues, not the actions of two nutters on the streets. I hardly think the situations compare. I don't like the language used by government and I am not convinced that yesterday's murder is actually a 'terrorist' act. It's too easy to use that kind of tabloid shorthand. |

No one said they did. They are still a vile organisation.
When you have apathetic Government and a dumbed down electorate the EDL and extremism will flourish and thrive , history tells us that . |

It was a pleasant change to see last nights attack was condemned by most groups very very quickly. the fact remains however that there is growing home grown extremism that the community must police itself and it has a long long way to go before it will be doing so effectively. if the video is to be believed then this was an act of terrorism committed in the name of islam against a serving soldier in broad daylight outside a barracks. committed by what appears to be a very British muslim. The british people have every right to be ****ing livid by this. They dont have the right to hate every muslim but its very easy to see why there is and will continue to be an uproar. varying media coverage cannot of course be justified in any way past human nature but the nature of this attack will rightly garner more attention at home just as i would expect drone attacks to garner more attention in peshawar. Its the notion that british citizens enjoying all the benefits of the society they live in and using those freedoms to attack the people of the very country they chose to live in that has rightly angered people. for me its brought back 7/7 when i lost a very dear friend to a bunch of similar ***** and frankly my religious tolerance is at an all time low. |
