Of course they could.......... not sure if they fully understood the significance of it, but it struck me as the sort of gesture that, if about 6 billion people could emulate it, would make the world a better place.
that, my friend is truly fantastic. Well done.

Same here, 3 Scots, 1SA, 1 Philipeno..stood up head bowed.

My french colleague kept on trying to call me so the phone was switched off well before. His phone is now going direct to the answerphone, one of my pals commented that he has maybe surrendered it to ze Germans..(who are our customers)

As my birthday is the 11th, i always requested to read a passage at the service, and when i read out the 'we will remember them', to see the look the men next to me who 16 years previously had been here in much different circumstances, some of them survivors of HMS Sheffield, Coventry and my mate Ray who was on the Antelope when it was hit (although it sank much later), was something i will never forget.

As was attending the remembrance service in 2003 remembering the fallen in Iraqi Freedom..Remembering the lives of people whose demise, so pointless and tragic as non peacetime accidents are, is something i always reflect on.

And to those who glorify conflict, ill easily take a moment to explain what the reality is...
Commander, AA Man's best friend and his boss were the BD guys who went on board one of the naval ships to defuse a bomb which had not exploded. There was a faulty trigger and sadly Cpl Jim Prescott RE lost his life and WOII John Phillips RE lost his arm in the explosion. So today I remember them both and all the other young lives lost in that particular war and all the other wars which our young people fight so bravely to stop.

I wear my poppy with pride as an ex military person myself and i stopped for a few minutes at 3pm local time here in UAE to remember them all. God Bless and keep our troops safe in the future days.

Grace, my earlier photo is HMS Antelope shortly after the incident occurred when your husbands friends were killed and maimed. The resultant explosion which tragically occurred, caused widespread fires and the explosion was the seacat magazine (IIRC) exploding. At that moment, all the crew (including the Steward who was killed in the Petty officers mess upon impact, and the RE team) had been evacuated.

The antelope sunk in a defiant 'V' sign which says it all really, broken but never beaten..

It is an official war grave in San Carlos bay, where the RN ship on station always send divers down to change the ensign.

We will remember..

3 cheers for the red white and blue
3 cheers for the red white and blue
For the Army and the Navy and the RAF
3 cheers for the red white and blue

God bless the young service men and women who have given and who continue to give their lives for their country.

Today we all remember however some never ever can forget, the sleepless nights, the horrors revisited with alarming regularity.

To the survivors of conflict, who still suffer the emotional and psychological trauma of their experiences, I am thinking of you and praying for your resolve to be strong. There IS help available.

Peace

Hi All,

As the poppy appeal will shortly be kicking off, I need a quick hand. Can anyone put me in touch with the RBL representative who can supply the collection tins? I still have plenty of poppies from years gone by but my contact (Frank) seems to have disappeared.

For the first time in 10+ years i will be in the UK this November and look forward to taking my cold, wet place in the crowd rather than being alone on a sandy street.

Cheers,
CH

My mum marched each year, and then was pushed in a wheelchair the last couple of years - it was a very special weekend for her.

I will be a proud parent this year as my two have joined the ATC and will be 'on parade'.

Personally, my donations will be going to those innocent victims of the typhoons and earthquakes in the Phillipines and Indonesia rather than to the families of those who chose to join the Armed Services.
