I know that feeling very well. The Patrol went in for a new radiator last week and it's come out sicker than it went in.

This particular Discovery is green. Not the classic dark green of the older ones but still a silvery green that I like. Sweet! But dayyumm.
its all true, i knew all this before buying mine but had a moment of heart over head. reckon ive spent twice what the car cost in repairs since i bought it. dont get me completely wrong, when it runs well i love it, just those moments are few and far between.

im now tempted to get a range rover but the wife keeps reminding me why i shouldnt

But trying to park that beast in London is a different reality.

I won't. Well that's the plan , then again the last plan involved not buying a disco, I like cars with character which usually means crap ones!

If you want it, buy it.

If it goes tits up, fix it.

If you don't want it anymore, sell it.

Sorted.

may be often and ridiculously expensive and take car of the road for long periods of time

If you don't want it anymore, sell it.
and recoup less than you paid and even less than you spent in repairs

Sorted.

But this is an LR3, they're quite new. Surely every single LR doens't break down regularly.

Papa Scamp had a Range Rover for years and the only time it didn't work was when he put petrol in it.

luck mate, luck.

all landrovers without exception can be prone to random faults. friend has a virtually brand new rangerover which just two days ago had a hydraulic fault the left the suspension bottomed out and car undrivable. have an lr3 owner mate who is spending this week driving with his widows open because his ac is only blowing hot air, another disco 2 owner whos car just decided to stop on SZR last week. the list goes on and on.

mine at the moment has developed a sump oil leak and is currently pissing a litre or so of oil out every 3 or 4 days, that's on top of a fault its had for a year that results in a total loss of power when driving that lasts for 30 seconds or so and cant be diagnosed by any garage in town.

look at any landrover owners club or forum and there will be a daily list of problem, breakdowns and solutions.

i love landies but **** me they are shit cars when it comes to reliability

Crikey.

The Skoda of the 4x4 world.

I love them, I'd really like a new Disco.

Talking of random faults, my Explorer blasts baltic-cold air out the passenger side vents, but takes forever to get even close to the same on the dirver's side....anyone got any ideas?

i used to own a skoda when i was a student, most reliable car i ever owned. didnt service it for 3 years and it ran perfectly, used to be the only car on my street that would start 1st time every time in the winter. was rough as a bag of rocks to drive but utterly unbreakable.

Skodas are mint...as are Seats and VWs. No need to look elsewhere for a car in Europe.

Flux capacitor must be jammed on the driver side. Try poke it with a big pointy stick.
