Land Rover Discovery/ LR3
Someone I know is selling a 2009 Discovery/LR3.
Any reasons why I shouldn't buy it?

It's a Land Rover.... LOL
Take a look at Land Rover owners clubs however, if you want to be sure take it to Saluki Motorsport in Al Quoz - total and utter Landy Specialist and a proper mate of mine 04 347 6939, speak to Mark (the boss), he'll check it over properly for a few quid. If he say's buy it, then buy it.

Re: Land Rover Discovery/ LR3
Yes, sorry to the newbies.
I am in the UK. Former DXB expat.
I'm just toying with the idea. I can afford the petrol as I don't drive that much and live in relatively centralish London but it'll probably be a headache in the long run.
But in putting together the maths I'm wondering what the typical maintenance and repair expenditures would be for a 4-5 year old Land Rover? How reliable are they? Do they break down as often as some people claim?

1st reply nails it! I say this as a North American spec d110 owner.
If I was going on long expedition type trips or into places where mechanical parts and service was more or less non-exsistent , I sure as heck would choose a LandCruiser over any LR product.

Re: Land Rover Discovery/ LR3
I have an Audi A3. I only drive it on weekends but Mrs Ethos and I head out of London most weekends these days for various green parts.
I suppose I'm playing with the fantasy of dogs, muddy boots and (eventually) a couple little brats. A Land Rover would be handy. We can even stash the Filipino nanny on the roof if needed.
But trying to park that beast in London is a different reality.
Few cars do anything for me. But the Land Rover is one I've always liked.
What's sad is that I can afford a new Land Rover if I wanted, but the only place where I can make the money to do so is in London. Which is the worst place in Britain to have a Land Rover.
Getting back to my earlier questions, to make my excel spreadsheet happy, can anyone give me a general idea of the typical annual operating expenses for a Land Rover, 4-5 years old? Not the petrol bit but servicing, tyres, repairs?

Re: Land Rover Discovery/ LR3
actually 4-5 years old is the sweet zone
0-3 and you're wearing it in and there's a lot not covered by the warranty
6-7 and things start to fall apart again

Is it painted green? -I was going to say 'is it green?' but that might have set the environmentalists off on to one....

as a current landrover owner.
DONT ****ING BUY A LANDROVER
caveat, parts and maintenance will be easier in the UK and when they work they are nice cars
but
you WILL experience the special landrover hell of your car breaking down, randomly, often, not often, for mysterious reasons that will go away after 15 mins, 1 day or even for 6 months you will replace broken parts that dont fix the problem you went to the garage for and so on. They are a sickness not a passion.
after 4 glorious years i am either going to burn my disco or sell it in the next few weeks, i'm done with its moods.
seriously they are nice but buy a pajero or prado (amazon in UK)

I really didn't want to hear that.
Even though I knew in the back of my mind that would be the case.
This particular Discovery is green. Not the classic dark green of the older ones but still a silvery green that I like. Sweet! But dayyumm.
