We are in the process of buying a house back home and need to provide evidence of ID and physical address. Can anybody recommend a local (ie. Dubai) solicitor who can provide the necessary authentication for a reasonable fee?

I was able to get my company's legal department do it - everyone seemed happy with that.
In the end, our legal department was away so we used the office manager and company stamp.

I got a number of quotes from different law firms, ranging from the outrageous (500 dhs per document) to the surprisingly reasonable (a contribution to their in-house charity). Guess who I picked (I can send you their name if you like).

We just did this, used Davidson & Co, shangri la hotel office building on SZR. 150 per document, in and out in ten minutes. Notary public refused to do it as UK documents, embassy told is to post to UK.
Not sure it was cheap though, but didn't feel we had a lot of choice as we don't have a pal who's a solicitor....
