nottmbantam, i think it's very sad if you leave, but agree totally about the direction the board has taken recently...your help for people moving to saudi has been invaluable i am sure, and it would be a pity if you went...

I've missed the thread that's upset you Notts but hope you don't leave. I don't know how i would feel if middle class white atheist families were consistently derided so am completely unsure whether i feel you are being too sensitive or quite right to feel this way.
I hope you let this moment pass and come back.

Re: I'm off as well. Goodbye.
I've just read through a different thread, we have another Brit moaning about Asians/ Muslims / Islam in the UK in quite a derogatory manner.
We've had it in quite a few threads now. A simple thread ends up with nasty, sarcastic and bitter & twisted posts. No-one seems to object, so it looks like its fair game.
If it's ok in your book, then fair enough. In the past I have read comments about this being a British Forum, so therefore British 'opinion and humour' will prevail.
These comments are not ok in my book, as an Asian Muslim quite clearly, the comments are aimed at me, my family and friends. Who else are they aimed at? If it wasn't for 'us', then the problems wouldn't exist. Would they?
My own philosophy is that if you don't like the Middle East, stop moaning about it and f.cuk off back home. I don't like this Forum anymore, so I've quit moaning about it, and I'm gonna do the same - f.cuk off somewhere else.
There are a few decent people here, and its been a pleasure to meet them. However, they seem to be dwindling in number. Best of luck to you. Ma salaama.

Such a shame. A very helpful poster.
****ing off is letting the bad people win..
I'm with automatic guy..fight the good fight.
Being ginger and scottish, I have lived on the front line of racism, albeit a kind of racism that somehow is deemed acceptable.
Stay!!

I haven't seen the specific thread either (funnily enough I'm becoming less and less interested mainly because of the same old same old being banded about). I don't however think that such consistent derision is part of a "bit of banter" or should be considered part and parcel of the humour of the Bored. It's not.
The posters who do keep on going off on one should really step back and ask themselves what they bring to the forum... maybe they should even summarise their entire argument in bullet points (because it's always just variations on a theme) and copy/paste it into every thread. They should also really consider if they should mitigate their own freedom of speech when they so very obviously offend normal posters who do have something constructive to offer.
Nottbantam... it's probably not directed at you, in fairness, but being caught up in incessant generalisation must be wearing. Had you been in a pub, you would have probably left early and the evening would be worse for it.

Shame to see you go mate. I wish you would reconsider.
I take your point though, there seems to be a lot of haters on the bored lately. People who have nothing constructive to bring to any thread other than moaning about muslims or writing vile comments directed at individuals. This is a recurring theme it seems, so perhaps they are all the same person or maybe there just is a lot of haters out there in the wild.
Don't take their sh*t personally mate. Some people are just not brave enough to voice their opinions in real life, so instead they attack people using the relative anonymity of a web forum. Others of course are just k-untz...

Nottbantam, stay and use the ignore facility for posters who annoy you - it works well for me! There are a number of new posters on my ignore list so I know where you are coming from.

I had a quick look at the rules section of this site and a large number of posters seem to directly challenge them with impunity. Perhaps it's the drink speaking, looking at the time of day of some of the posts? Also had a quick look at some of the profiles of those who are personally abusive. I am sure that they would not behave in this way face to face with strangers or in their professional work place. Perhaps we should all be more proactive in reporting personal abuse, rather than rely on moderators, who may miss it. The posts and threads move so quickly, that it is easy to miss the worse offenders. I joined Britishexpats to find out about how people had coped with the move from the UK to Dubai & to hopefully make new friends when I arrive - not to read threads that openly abuse other members.

Notts,
Hopefully a particular bad bout of 'thin skin' has passed and you are back fighting the good fight...
Edit : I meant the last sentence in a purely non-secular way....

Nottmbantam,
The modern Britain is mainly bigoted because of atheism. I know this is a controversiall statement but I will discuss and justify this piece with solid evidence some other time but for now the important thing is that you stay. If you left then I will leave this forum as well – I see many praying for you to leave now ok, if you stayed then I will leave the forum.

Atheism causes bigotry? That's hilarious. I can't wait to see how you back that one up. The major monotheistic religions are based on "one true God" who is bigger and better than the others' "one true God". Surely more divisive than arguing that there is no God at all.

Re: I'm off as well. Goodbye.
There may well come a day when some of the new people from the bored actually "need the advice" of the more experienced expats rather than continues one line derogatory remarks coming from some of the newbies!!!
I have (still a newbie) many times over the last few months gladly taken the advice of the more experienced expats in Bahrain. Its a great shame that people like Notts feel they are being driven out when he brings so much knowledge to the forum for people just starting out in the ME or that have concerns while being here.
TWO long term expats in two weeks leaving this forum tells you something is wrong
