I need a hat
For wearing in the evening when I go out, but wearable indoors (in the bar, casino and the like), coz: the bar I'm in right now is cold, it's chilly outside when I walk to the other bar in town, I've got bugger-all hair left and I've got a skin condition that's left my crown looking unsightly. My trilby is out of place here, my small Stetson is too flamboyant, and I'm not going to wear a baseball cap.
Suggestions please :D |
Re: I need a hat
Flat/rain cap?

Re: I need a hat
Sorry............. you mention that you're going bald, and that you have an unsightly head, but nothing can justify wearing a hat indoors........ take a look around when you are in a bar or other place where people gather, and ask yourself what you think of those you can see who are wearing hats........ precisely.
The same is true of people who wear hats while driving cars........... :sneaky: |
Re: I need a hat
Surely there is only one option to be considered...

Re: I need a hat

Re: I need a hat
You might be able to rock this bad boy. The ears can be tied up over the head indoors making it a very versatile solution.
And here's John wearing this year's latest in leather dungarees. http://i.imgur.com/KVJWFFl.jpg |

You have only one reasonable solution, which you have dismissed. A baseball cap can be worn pretty much everywhere including indoors.

Re: I need a hat
I would suggest either a Soviet Politburo hat, or a Pakol.

Re: I need a hat
My recommendation is a stopover in Istanbul. I can give suggestions for bespoke hatters there. Waering a hat became a political symbol in the 1920s under Ataturk. Hats-modern. Other headgear - reactionary. People were hanged for wearing the wrong headgear !

Re: I need a hat
Thanks for all suggestions so far. Watched Top Gear on iPlayer last night, and Hamster was at one point wearing what looked like a nubuck flat cap--looked ok. However, the immediately-limiting factor is choice of shops (sweet FA where I am right now), so will have to see what's available in Casablanca in a few weeks, and if I can't find something suitable wait till I get home in the summer.
Although I do agree with The Dean in that most men who wear a hat indoors look stupid, but there is that occasional exception... |
Re: I need a hat
Measure your head and get it online?
Just get something that uses a proper size, like the US/UK sizes and not go by S/M/L etc, as those tend to be well different depending on the hat, but a UK 57/US 7 is pretty exact for instance. At least in my experience, they've all been bang on and it's only been the ones in medium/large that have been well off despite them saying what the range of sizes that make the banding. |

Re: I need a hat
Smear some thing sticky on your head, honey, glue, (your choice) then stick it in the sand. your head will be covered and therefore no longer offensive plus you won't be wearing a hat so obviously won't look like the aforementioned twat.
You can thank me later when you start to hear those knickers hitting the dance floor upon your grand entrance. |

Re: I need a hat
Oh, and you will always be out of place in a trilby if you're not a spy working for MI6 in the 70's. Same for small Stetson unless you're one of those American kiddie beauty pageant train wrecks a la toddlers and tiaras.
Sand-cap all the way Honey. |

I can't imagine you in anything other than a fedora- even tho' a fez may be culturally more appropo.....
