Not really a hurricane in the traditional sense of the word, more of a tropical cyclone.

I did make the comment to my friends the other day that is weather was more like Darwin than Dubai and then along comes tropical cylone Phet just to make it more convincing. I hope we get some nice rain out of it. I do love a good cyclone (as long as I'm no in it's direct path).

Yeah we're living the cyclone, although it got downgraded to a tropical storm when it hit Muscat. A lot of flooding and damage, particularly in Sur. While you're hoping for rain in UAE, spare a thought for the people here in Oman. A lot of people died during and after Gonu. It's not quite over yet as more rain is expected but I can't imagine we will get off unscathed with all this flooding.
