Hurricane Phet

Anyone planning a trip to Oman this weekend should think again. I've had to cancel my dive trip to Daymaniyat Islands due to Hurricane Phet which is expected to hit in the next 30 hours. Is a Category 5 which is a bit of a blower.

There is a chance we might get the arse end of it in the UAE, lets hope it is not as bad as Gonu.

First indications were that it would be blown off course towards Karachi, now seems it may hit land in Oman south of Muscat. Guess that means it will be drawing up loads of sand rather than water?

Whatever, hope it does far less damage than Gonu. We were visiting Muscat just a couple of weeks ago and went down to Qurriyat (about 100k down the coast from Muscat) and they're still trying to recover from the damage Gonu caused.

As Shatti Road (causeway) below the Crowne Plaza only reopened in the last 8 months too but hopefully the extra fortifications and bridges will allow any torrential wadi flooding to flow underneath and out to sea without causing too much damage.

May God/Allah or whichever deities people pray to protect all those who may be at risk from Phet.

I have a theory that praying to God/Allah (or anyone else) sometimes doesn't actually change anything........... :sneaky:

That's not a real photo, someone's got in before me and learnt how to use Photoshop. Its a composite of an image from GoogleEarth and an ultrasound image of a feotus--any fule can see that.

Surely the burden of proof should be on the person making the extraordinary claim.

Have faith, my son, then you don't need proof.;)

Slightly odd that it's exactly three years to the day since Gonu hit.

That's tautological (but yes).

Not necessarily. You can have logical faith e.g., I have faith that my car will get me from a to b because it had a service recently, or you can have blind faith which means you have faith in something for no good reason.
