Like mikewot we went around 1990 and was as he said, concrete plinth at airport, tractor and trailer for baggage and customs carried out their own table and chairs to sit at and check passports! Since the excellent Captain Corelli book was made into a not very good film we have not dared go back, even in 1990 there was a lot of concrete starting to go up in some parts. No doubt though most people will stay in the main resorts so hopefully other areas will remain relatively unspoilt.
