Holiday Recommendations.....
 

Having just returned from Kefalonia I cannot recommend it enough to people. Visited a few Greek islands before but usually the 'livelier' ones.

Beautiful scenery, buidings and relics, the friendliest people I have met for a long time and great value food & Drink.

Perfect place to hire a car, almost all the cars on the road are hire cars and there is hardly any........Or as a beach/pool holiday.

If you are struggling for inspiration its a good alternative to the usual destinations. I spent 2 days in Athens to take in the Acropolis 1st which is well worth it.

The Acropolis....I made the mistake of walking up to it. Absolute slums all the way up the hill and it was then shut because of a strike.

I visited Kef in about 1988, before the Captain Koreli book boosted tourism. It was fantastic but there was an awful lot of concrete building construction going on everywhere. One of my abiding memories was collecting luggage at the airport (new terminal under construction). You stood under a tin roof on a concrete plinth and the trolley loaded with bags came from the aircraft and parked there. You then had to scramble around to get your bags.
Oh that and the boatman singing in the Melissani cave, fantastic! When we docked and he was looking for tips he judged your nationality and because I was from UK he put his hand out and asked for a pint :)

Our hotel was 3 stops on the Metro so we took that to the bottom of the climb, But it is still quite a climb up made worse by the fact its no smoking. The Museum I found far more interesting and less strenuous.

(The metro is an experience in itself, there are no barriers and basically works on an honesty scheme - (Though for 4 Euros a day I got a ticket)

The terminal is still basically a shed. Whilst waiting for my luggage my Mum and Uncle just wandered in, no security or anything - was great. The construction is mostly done - especially where I was though of course the Greeks will never finish a building 100% else they have to pay tax. All the hotels had at least one area 'Under Construction' - Generally one end room without a roof on it. I must of got the same boatman, sang plenty and was delighted to get 8 brits in his boat who all tipped. He would of been on the Ouzo that night.

Forgot about Captain C.M thats another part you can explore.

Is tha the Pininfarina designed one?

I was on a basketball tour in Athens and we never paid. Got caught but a conductor / guard but he was an old boy and literally didn't give a shit.

Great looking trams though.

I am bitterly disappointed by your photos. Having visited Kefalonia many times during the 1980s, I cannot believe that they have allowed rows of beach umbrellas to be installed on Myrtle Beach. What a shame. It completely ruins the view. Hopefully nothing else has been added.:fingerscrossed:

No seriously, Myrtle Beach has always been portrayed as a beautifully serene, empty beach. Very difficult to reach but photographically amazing. For me, it's now just another nice sandy beach. I am upset.
