BE Golfers...

Saudiflares had a great shout in another thread. How about a BE round?

Who on here (Ladies or Gents) plays golf?

Who would be interested in 9 or 18 holes as a group?

If you do play, your accurate or (like me) realistic handicap.

I play----ed before my back operation and was down to a very respectable 18 on my good days but I think 20 is a more reasonable number.

I would love to play 9 but I think I am not allowed atleast for another year.

Btw how expensive courses are here for non-members for a round of 9 lets say?
And how kitted up you need to be? i.e. what if one doesnt have clubs, do they rent it out for a round etc?

This is a copy of my geek spreadsheet:

Course Weekend Rate
Al Badia 895
Els Club 585 (res)
Emirates - Faldo 695 / 425 after 4 / 4ball 1275 (318) resi night golf / 255 9 holes (night)
Emirates - Majlis 995
Creek 750
Monty 825
Arabian Ranches 615
Meydan 9 Hole 495 (18?)
Jebel Ali 9 Hole 245 - 9 holes
JGE Fire 795
JGE Earth 895

Can rent clubs, varies at each venue but think at Jumeirah Golf Estates my mate paid about 140?

Obviously I'm in and as long as the numbers are reasonable am willing to book it at JGE if people are interested... (that's book, noy pay :p)

9 or 18 - Whatever the consenus is although if you're going to go to the agg of playing may as well do 18....

Accurate handicap - 14.1 realistic handicap right now nearer 18.... For JGE Earth the slope rating means its playing about 4 shots higher that your handicap ie take your handicap add the 4 shots and that's where you should be scoring....

Crikey, you're right. Lots of holes are uphill. Bastards.

I agree with 18 over 9, but we can go with the general consensus.

JGE makes sense as you're a member = we all get it cheaper and you don't have to pay.

Ok, lets give it a day or so to see if anyone else fancies a hack and go from there.....

Provisionally; 18 holes, Earth, weekend, mid Jan?

It is extortionate for a round (I think) but normally it's 895 at a weeked I think...so VFM makes me want to play it.

PLUS, it's the course that I've seen Luke Donald on so I want to play!

husband played it last week for free, by way of being a marshall at the golf, he enjoyed it. You are right it is a total rip off but if that's the price then you got to pay it.

Yep. Indeed.

Other option is the Faldo Night Golf - Resident rate is 1275 for a fourball (318 each) which is a good deal and I'm playing there tonight.

We'll put it up to the popular vote.

Is he good?

So far;

Scamp Donald - HSevere
Welivehere McIlroy - H14
Saudiflares McDowell H16
MrBlueCat Poulter

Irishbeekeeper - sounds like it's too soon for your injuries pal, depending on the success of this we can go again another time?

Also, can anyone recommend the best places locally to try and buy clubs?

For the BE golf I'll play anywhere I'm easy, JGE, Faldo - Matters not...

Regardless where we decide as a group the invite for JGE still stays open, if anyone fancies a round just PM me and we'll try to sort it out. I play most Sat mornings....

No, sorry mate. I just made that spreadsheet so I don't have to keep searching for prices.

Most places have it on their website I think though...

Clubs - Dubizzle if you want a deal, otherwise at a decent club they'll let you try and then fit etc.

The issues with golf clubs here is that the actual clubs themselves tend to be associated to one particular brand, eg... Badia is almost exclusively Taylor made, Creek and Emirates are heavily Ping focussed, JGE have a very limited offering whilst other brands such as Mizuno have very little representation at the actual clubs but are available in retail.

One option is a demo night. There is one at Emirates on 28th Dec, Titleist, Ping and Taylormade are all represented and you can go down hit various brands and make a selection there. They also tend to have Pros on site who can help with selection.

Another option if you know what you want is to just order from the UK / US.
The down side is if you need advice as some of the golf clubs here are cottoning on and will charge you approx 200AED for fitting appointment (redeemable if you buy from them).

Having said that I am looking at new driver and its 400AED cheaper to buy / ship it from the US, so even if I pay 200AED for the fitting to get the right spec and order on line I'm still 200AED up. Thats not a hugs saving but if you need a complete set and know exactly what you need you can save a bit.....

I'm quite brand neutral when it comes to clubs, more important they feel right, so being able to try out a number of different sets, with some bias free input from a pro would be ideal. And doing so on a range rather than hitting into a net also.

Might head along on the 28th. I presume it's freely open to non-members?

Ideally, I'd do the same, try out a few sets, find the ones I like and then buy them online/from abroad. Done this before and saved enough to buy an extra wedge

I played so badly last night at the Faldo that I've banned myself form going on a course agian until I've had some lessons.

I still do the same things, I just can't avoid slicing the ball, even with irons. Putting has disappeared which was my one average part...although 50yds and closer I'm still quite nifty.

Depressing.

Mate that's golf... Stick with it. I brought a driver for Xmas as my driving had got to the point where I felt I could manage a new toy. What happens; driving goes to shite by my irons are ****** amazin right now....

Remember you do it for fun, it aint always gonna be great but even if I'm not playing well the fact I'm spending 4hrs outside, with good company on some of the best courses I'll get to play is what makes it enjoyable for me... Of course I "want" to score well but its not the be all and end all if the wheels fall off.... :D

Sweet, I'd take that. With the course rating here if you took the same on the front you'd be playing off about 20....

Yeah. Was horrid.

Ironically I was catching the guys up on the green as I'd duffed an 80yd chip to about 30yds short of the green. Walked up moaning with them all chuckling at me calling myself a fat useless wanker.

Smashed the chip to about 3 inches. No practice swings, no though, not even a proper grip or stance. Just walked up and hit it. I think one of the lads fell over laughing.

To be honest, I don't get angry, I'm not a smasher or thrower of clubs - that's just gay. I just get a bit frustrated with myself.

Borrowed a mates 5 wood, thought I'd give it a whirl. Topped it, walked to where it landed and then smashed it miles and straight. That kills me.

Let me hit the range a bit more.

We all chuckle at one lad who is a bit like that. Not chucking them around but gets angry.

Played with a guy at the monty summer before last. Duffed a pitch and just launched the club, missed me spinning by a few feet. No apology, nothing. Waited until the end of the round and told him I'd never play with him again, ****ing stupid.
