I put that down to ignorance. Most Americans (not just black people) have extremely limited knowledge of their history. I actually think it is disgusting considering their history is only a few hundred years old and pretty well documented, but still they don't know jackshit about what really happened.

I could have skipped the first paragraph and just written the following (but I thought it was useful to put some things into perspective);

The first step to getting respect is knowledge and the second step is to respect yourself!

It's all about context. When Black people use it amongst themselves it is usually N@$$a and not N@$$er ; the former is a term on endearment like Redneck or Bubba. Jeff Foxworthy uses Redneck as a term of endearment, and so do many other Whites.
