Nobody springs to mind, but Mourinho is so un-English in virtually all respects.

I don't think he would fit in at United. He is all about the short term rather than the long term.

United have benefitted from having a manager forever...but before that they were like many other clubs, changing managers every so often.

Just because they've had Fergie, doesn't mean they won't appoint someone who they know they'll only get 3,4,5,6 seasons out of...

Frank De Boer’s just won a 3rd successive title as Ajax manager – he’d be a decent shout, and the first foreign manager Utd have ever had(?)

Yep.

Juve's manager Conte - but he was a captain at the club so unlikely.

Hiddink?
Dortmunds manager?
Steve Bruce?

Shit the bed....Roy Keane. Done.

Moyes fits in with the ethos of the club . They want long term development with sound structure , that means world class coaches and Fergie moving upstairs to oversee the new boy . I think David Gill moves over to UEFA next year so it's all change .

They have a world class coach already in Rene Meulensteen so the timing could be perfect .

Ferguson was the best , without a shadow of a doubt .

I would like to see someone of Dennis Wise's calibre get the job, he would do a great jobbie on United.

True. Whoever they appoint will have been given the go ahead by Fergie. I really do think it will be Moyes.

For me the interesting thing is when was the decision made by Fergie? With Pep out of a job until a couple of months ago if Fergie would have told the board that he was leaving back then Pep would be the manager next season.

Personally I think he would only have retired as a league champion.
