Re: Enaglish Premier League 08/09
Have been reading an article in the Times about Man City's owner and the real situation there.
Thaksin Shinawatra has £800M tied up in Bangkok that won’t be released whilst he's under investigation for land fraud during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Last month City's former chairman John Wardle lent the club £2M to pay players wages and Bills. He has subsequently been repaid in full however this glosses over what must be a dire cash flow problem.
Apparently mark Hughes has clashed with Paul Aldridge, City's Chief Operating Officer, over transfer funds. There is little in the pot.
It is also stated that City's £40M transfers last season were financed with only a fraction paid up front. City is having problems in servicing the subsequent debt. In addition the Jo deal has been funded in a similar way. Those deals alone means City owe £60M in outstanding transfer fees alone
Shinawatra was due in court in Bangkok yesterday but failed to appear and seeks asylum in Britain. His status as a fit and proper person to run a premiership club is in question.
It is highly possible that City could go the way of Leeds united if Shinawatra cannot access his funds and Mark Hughes, through no fault of his own, would very likely be out of a job.
For a long time now I’ve had the feeling that football cannot sustain the absurd, often obscene level of debt created by player and agent greed. The premiership is facing the very real prospect of humiliation if City succumb to cash flow pressures.
Interesting times ahead for Lionheart and his fellow Mancs !

City to go into administration and be deducted 10 points (hopefully)
as for the other bit.
EPL: Chelski (might change my mind on that if we sign a decent striker)
FA Cup: Spurs
Carling Cup : who cares?
Relegated: Fulham, WBA, Stoke
Champions League: Barcelona
hope I'm wrong on the EPL, Champions League and FA Cup. Time we had another treble

Have heard on good authority today LH, that Corluka has been sold to Tottenham as the paper work has been put through. Man City tried to pull out last minute but it is too late as everything has gone through. Tottenham are gonna launch legal action. Hughes said he would quit if the transfer was finished behind his back and since it has been he will leave

Apparently an Abu Dhabi investment group has bought the Bitters.
Thaksin will be allowed to stay on in an honorary role, although I can't see that working.
