Re: Eid Holiday
We got this from work:
'We will observe a holiday on the first two days of Eid Al Fitr, which will start subject to the sighting of the moon:
Either on Sunday 20th September, 2009, with normal business commencing on Tuesday 22nd September, 2009.
OR on Monday 21st September, 2009, with normal business commencing on Wednesday 23rd September, 2009.
Kindly observe the local media on Saturday night for final confirmation'
i.e. We do not know...wait and see.

Re: Eid Holiday
I received this from my virtual office service provider (private company):
UAE officials have announced that they will observe Eid ul-Fitr from Sunday the 20th September 2009.
To mark the celebration of Eid Ul- Fitr please be advised that the office will be closed on Sunday 20th and Monday the 21st September 2009.
I can't recall but will the bars be open Monday 21st night (say for quiz nights)?

As our biggest clients (an Arab based insurance company) are taking three days off Sun-Mon-Tue, we are doing likewise. Yabby dabby doo!

Re: Eid Holiday
Anyone have a guess at Eid Al Fitur dates this year and also if Friday 27th Nov could be a dry day? (Not a raging alkie but have folks in town and am planing a brunch on this Friday).
Thoughts anyone? *puts on moon sighting goggles*

Re: Eid Holiday
They say that Eid will officially start on Friday 27th so will we still be getting Sunday-Monday off in the private sector and Weds for National Day? It will make Tuesday a nice quiet day on the roads I suspect.

Re: Eid Holiday
Anyone know anything further about holidays for public and private sector?
I have friends at DIFC who got a formal confirmation today that they have the Thursday and Sunday off, back on Monday.
They are private and I am government and normally get at least 1 extra day so was hoping for the Monday as well.
However, my Arabic colleagues today told me that there was an article in the Khaleej online, Arabic version only, that said Sheikh Mohammed had issued an order that all workers, public included, return to work on Monday and Tuesday. It also stated that schools would be open Monday and Tuesday. No sign of this in the English versions though and seems different to the previous announcement re schools
So, any ideas??

Re: Eid Holiday
Does this make any sense to anyone here? They say we get a three day paid holiday from Thursday to Saturday, which to most of us means one day (Thursday) off only. That's tough coz I am away Saturday-Monday inclusive.

here's this from Khaleej. So yes, looks like only the Thursday 26th Nov and Wednesday 2nd Dec for private, versus a week and a day for public sector.

Thursday 26th the Day of Arafat (nothing to do with Yasser). I know JPS have been given Thursday off, we're waiting to find out.
