Well the massive spending has already started at the airshow with the largest aircraft order ever. Emirates ordered another 50 A380 (23 billion$) and 150 777's (76 billion$), Etihad orders 82 dreamliners (25.2 billion$), Qatar Airways ordered 51 777 and FlyDubai 100 737Max.

150 x 777 76 billion
82 Dreamliners (787s?) 25.2 billion

So an A380 and a 777 are roughly 0.5 billion each (500,000,000) and a 787 is 0.293 billion (293,000,000) each.

Why is the 777 2/3s more expensive? How can an airline justify that increase?

So the prices quoted from EK are bollocks then, $500mill? According to your link an A380 is $319m, a 777 is $281m and a 787 is $157m.

More bullshit from the Gulf Carriers then.

Sorry I was being dull earlier. It's not the 777-2 or 3 that has been ordered but the new 777x mini jumbo.

Just waiting for the backlash when they are asked to move it to winter and all the European Expo leagues get upset

There's appears to be massive amount of confidence about a Dubai win - the countdown clocks in SZR, the wall-to-wall press coverage etc. So on the basis that it looked like a done deal I was recently looking for some way to profit from it.

The only online betting site I could find which covers the Expo was offering the following odds:
Yekaterinburg: 11 to 1
Sao Paulo: 9 to 1
Izmir: 7 to 1
Dubai 1.15 to 1

So, yes, it looks like a done deal...

Long enough to know that Dubai is unlikely to make such a lot of noise about something that isn't already in the bag...
