So am I so bad for thinking that?

Yes Bison you are bad.

The English are the only ethnic group in the world who are not allowed to have their own country or government.

Basically the English taxpayers are there to support the Scots, Welsh and any Tom, Dick or Mohammad who comes to the UK asking for asylum because kids call him names back home.

You can't disagree on any level. You can't speak about it. We have no freedom of speech in the UK. We have no separation of religion and state and we terrified that having a national identity of any kind beyond being seen as rude drunks or snobs will make the world think we are racists.

So we can either start a civil war and turn the place upside down or we can work overseas and then move to Australia or Canada like everyone else in England is doing!

Do you have any sort of evidence or data to back up that statement or are you just being racist towards the English by suggesting they are incapable of running their own affairs without foreigners residing there?

I would hate to imagine the response if you had said that about another native ethnic group in their own country...

When you are 85% of the UK population and 85% of the Government you are basically running the country with a massive majority.

Londoners and Scots subsidise the rest of the UK ... Oxford Economics report last year

Norm unfortunately we are a society which is unable to be happy in its own identity/skin, maybe due to having such a blatent class system which lumps people into certain brackets. I do feel that we have a pretty good shot at making the UK what it is, not exaclty brimming over with male, pale and stale men at Westminster is it?

You talk about Bison having it rough not being able to speak about these issues! That is what we are doing isn't it, but when you (Bison 0- check out his firsdt post) resort to blatent stereotypes - shag our birds, milk the system, spread diseases, break the law, kill our grannies, import all drugs, whatever is bad then that is not really grounds for a discussion is it?

Pathetic bandwagon jumping if you ask me...

I dont think we have it perfect back home and there is lots to work on but i think we have a system which does generate debate and discussion, which allows people to get actively involved in politics... If they can be arsed...

I take it you've never heard of the Barnett Formula?

1.25 million pensioners in England and Wales say they cannot afford heating bills during the winter while in Scotland pensioners can apply for home improvement grants to install central heating systems and double-glazing for free.

Scottish pensioners can get free care to help those over 65 with feeding, dressing and washing. They can also get free eye and dental check ups. They get free bus and coach travel anywhere in Scotland and access to a wider range of cancer treating drugs than their cousins south of the border. Most don't pay for parking fees when they visit the hospital either.

The UK government spends £11.2bn (If we take out North Sea oil that figure would drop to around £6.5 though) more per year in Scotland than it takes in tax revenues. In other words, Scotland receives a subsidy from the rest of the UK equal to 12 per cent of its GDP. Not bad given Scotland only makes up 8.5% of UK population.

So no, it's not a wind up really. It's a major failing by the British government to fairly govern it's citizens. It's all on the UK Gov figures websites...they aren't even trying to hide this economic apartheid.

Bison's comments to me are oft uniformed and smack of knee-jerk popularism...my comments about him not being able to speak are completely sarcastic and reflect the politically correct culture of the UK right now. He does raise some valid concerns though and I think the way people have responded is actually more in line with knee-jerk reactions too than actual constructive discourse.

The UK has no constitution stating we freedom of speech (and I mean complete freedom to speak one's mind within the accepted bounds of not calling for violence, discrimination etc)...we only have it as precedent in law - that's simply not good enough and is open to abuse. We don't separate religion and state. We have economic apartheid and we have an unelected head of state. We also have an immigration system that does not reward hard work and full cultural integration. We are also called "subjects" not "citizens".

All of these problems are the fault of our weak and bias government.

Hey Norm have you ever tried to do anything about this? Or do you just moan about it on BE message boards?

No Freedom of Speech - Disagree I think that there are platforms for people to become involved in politics, you just have to get off yer arse and put the hours in, is frustrating but then so are most democracies
Religion v. State - Agree, needs to be brought in line with the last 100 years really
Economic Apartheid - Something that is fluid and can change over time depending on what we are selling, basically not a lot -few fossil fuels in the north sea and some services in the south east, 100 years ago things were very different, until we sold our soul to the neo cons in the 80s.
Head of State - Keep them (royals) but cull the line, send some of the no hopers out into the real world, to Bisons street in Gloucester
Immigration System - So have influx of Irish, Indian, West Indian population that came over in the 50/60's not been rewarded? Ithink you will probably find that a lot of the economic migrants will be leaving the UK at this time and also as more of Europe opens up will continue to or not bother coming at all, so what will happen then? Who shall we blame then?
Subjects v. Citizens - Arent we really a bit of both?
