Couldn't you push start it down a ramp or tow it?

..naw..I have to go up a steep ramp. Can't tow up the ramp because you have to to take the corner in two moves !

At times you would wish the car was a manual...A slight push, disengage the clutch and the car comes to life...

clicking solenoid?

Ball pin hammer, 3 taps on the starter motor/solenoid.

turn the key,

away she goes.

This was standard practice for my old gold austin montego 1.6HL.

Bit yorkshire ripperish though carrying a hammer in the glove compartment.

..funny you should say that..we (my marine engineering mate) were tapping on the solenoid/starter motor this morning while trying to start it...but to no avail. The car's 3 years old...so it could be the battery...so I'll replace that !

You could jump it first to save buying a battery if it's fine.

There must be people you can call to take care of things like this?

..yes...but if I had gone via Al Futtaim Toyota PARTS department the cost would have been AED 650...but by going through the service department--they add acid and superboost the battery for you (30 minutes wait)...total cost for a 12V/55 AH battery for a Prado was AED 422 !
