I don't see a problem. You can walk into a bank wearing a helmet or circumcise a female minor. Just because someone claims religious dispensation does not mean they should be allowed to get away with anything. Plus the Quran makes no mention of requiring women to cover their face.

You can walk off a mountain and keep your Balaclava on, also keep the helmet on in the street, on or off of a bike, no religion involved in either. Never mind masks for parties and Halloween.

That's spot on. Those who are so insistent about a woman being covered etc are probably sexually obsessed. Most men I know don't go into a frenzy at seeing a woman's knee or shoulder so it is those that do who have a problem.
I totally get the dressing modestly requirement, but the garments in question are way over the line for that. We all know they aren't actually religious garments, but cultural, yet those with an agenda have claimed them as symbols and that's a big problem. |

Brainwashed - but I would also say that women who wear those ridiculous super-high heels are as well.

curious to know if anyone has seen it - as the whether they're really that ugly, could that be one of the reasons why they're covered up?

I'm not keen on it but is it really a massive problem requiring a blanket ban? It should not be allowed in banks, security points and for professions like teaching and healthcare. As GG says, it's more about educating men. |

The FB page is certainly from some looney but I think there is a valid point in outlawing the burka and niqab in public places.
What or how does it infringe on you? |

Most countries have laws on what you must wear, go naked and the police will turn up sooner or later in most places. Also cultural rules, try wearing a bikini in most jobs and you will be fired. All markers on the same spectrum.

The ignorant and unpleasant content of the page linked to seems to be more about 'English power' (whatever that is) and mocking Muslims than any concern for the women involved, eg:

Re: The Burka
Meh.
If a woman in a niqab/burkha walked into the bank then surely similar rules around motorbike helmets applies? One is just more sensitive than the other but I can invent an x,000 year old religion of the helmet if I wanted and claim it being insensitive to remove my bike helmet. Banning it completely though? Seems a bit far fetched. I wouldn't want to be the rozzer dishing out a fine at Friday prayers in Bradford. |

Re: The Burka
Burkhas and modesty eh?
Not in Kuwait.... Police arrest 3 girls for being naked under ‘abaya’ Police have arrested three girls — all GCC nationals, one of whom is a minor — for wearing no clothes except abayas at a café in a commercial complex in Salmiya, the Al-Rai daily reported. According to the newspaper report, a boy reportedly told his mother that he saw a naked girl in the café and the mother then noticed the three girls and called the Operations Department of the Interior Ministry. The three girls told police that they had consensual sex in an apartment, consumed alcohol and got drunk. The girls added that when they regained their consciousness, they came to the café to have coffee. Police made a phone call to the father of the two GCC girls, but he said he could not come to Kuwait as he was busy. The girls were referred to the Criminal Investigations Department. Great parenting skills eh? |

Great parenting skills eh? Man gets 15 years, 1500 lashes for sorcery A Saudi court sentenced an African man to 15 years in jail and 1,500 lashes with the whip for embezzling money from many people through sorcery. Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice arrested the unidentified man, in his 50s, following complaints by many of his victims in various cities in the Gulf Kingdom. "They seized him red handed after setting a trap for him in Riyadh…they found talismans, herbs, hair and other items used in his fraudulent activities,†Ajel Arabic language daily said. So sodomise your daughter and kill her you get a few months whereas an African with a Paul Daniels magic kit gets 15 years and 1500 lashes. Utter Utter madness |
