My only thoughts about these items is that if women are wearing/being made to wear them because men can't control themselves at the sight of an uncovered nostril, then surely that's the man's issue not the woman's? Stick a bag over his head so he can't see! A society/culture that requires these items has over-sexualised women to a ridiculous degree.

That's spot on. Those who are so insistent about a woman being covered etc are probably sexually obsessed. Most men I know don't go into a frenzy at seeing a woman's knee or shoulder so it is those that do who have a problem.

I totally get the dressing modestly requirement, but the garments in question are way over the line for that. We all know they aren't actually religious garments, but cultural, yet those with an agenda have claimed them as symbols and that's a big problem.

The FB page is certainly from some looney but I think there is a valid point in outlawing the burka and niqab in public places.

So how does it work when it's the women themselves who insist on dressing like this? How often do you hear/read that it's the women who chose to dress like this because it makes them feel proud and it shows who they are?
Are they all brain washed or are they making a choice? I have asked similar questions of catholic women who loudly declare that they're catholic about how they feel about being second class citizens in that religion where they can never be priests or rise to the bosshood. They generally just laugh. I'm obviously missing something.

Indeed its a form of disguise - no different than Halloween night costume, Santa Clause outfit or a bank robber stocking over the head ... all look bloody stupid;)

have you ever wondered if men disguise themselves under the Niqab or Burqa coverings - scary thought?

I respect that those of that faith wear them for whatever excuse - what I'm totally against is having one in my part of the world that deals face to face with me (the public) in a setting such as a classroom, government office, shop ... and a few I cannot recall at this time

As for one of them demanding their religious right to wear the garb for a drivers licence photo is beyond imagination.

Then again what would a Scotsman say if you told him that he couldn't wear his tartan, a kilt & that silly bonnet while playing the bagpipes

Brainwashed - but I would also say that women who wear those ridiculous super-high heels are as well.

maybe that's what the burka wearing folks keep on telling folks

would a scotsman wearing a kilt & playing bagpipes through the streets of Saudi get locked up for indecent exposure & rowdiness?

English power in England? Heavens forbid that! As for mocking Muslims in Britain? Well that's not polite but do you know how much non-Muslims are mocked, maligned, slandered, enslaved and killed in the Koran alone? No one is asking for Islam to be banned, only certain garb which I suspect most Muslims would be happy to see gone as well.

The burkha is a security risk, has no basis in British culture outside of banditry and medievalism. Why must wealways debate and justify upholding our own culture in our own country?

Ban the damnable thing I say - there are a myriad of reasons to do so and if some people hurt the feelings of some Muslims doing so then tough...no one forced Muslims to move to Britain any more than we were forced to move to the UAE.

would you include or exclude burka wearing muslims born in Britain in not allowing them their religious rights & freedom?

Although I would ban any scotsman living in England or Wales who who plays the pipes and/or is wearing a kilt, more so after they separate

Brits in the UAE, now there's a thought. All for the money, what folks do - they'd put up with just about anything

Burka doesn't have very much to do with religion I don't think.

I don't see a problem. You can walk into a bank wearing a helmet or circumcise a female minor. Just because someone claims religious dispensation does not mean they should be allowed to get away with anything. Plus the Quran makes no mention of requiring women to cover their face.
