I've seen Niqab wearing women in Central London but that's hardly surprising I guess.

I hate the burka, and everything it represents, but banning an individual from wearing a particular style of clothing??

Last time I checked, I don't think they have ever done that in, for example, North Korea...........

France banned it. Others should follow suit.

Perfectly alright to ban any garment that covers the face of persons who are in the public sphere.

In a free and relatively transparent society a person's face must be identifiable except in special circumstance like Motorcyclists and persons wearing masks to minimize pollution or germs etc..

Burka and Niqab are Bronze Age tribalist attitudes of dominance and supremacy; no place for that s@#t in a relatively progressive , free and diverse society.

We should join our neighbours in France who have made it illegal in public places.

The ignorant and unpleasant content of the page linked to seems to be more about 'English power' (whatever that is) and mocking Muslims than any concern for the women involved, eg:

Its an insulting request to people with intelligence

So probably will attract the attention of the weak minded, chip on shoulder, highly defensive, posters

there is a move afoot here in Quebec Canada to ban religious symbols in certain places, its the beginning.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montre...kers-1.1699315

A ban on religious symbols would never likely happen in the UK

So why stop with the burka, niqab, hijab, shaylah, abaya etc, why not include those that wear a cross or crucifix, or a sikh its turban, a jew a kippah, the Pope with his kippah & thobe or some folks that wear baseball caps sideways or backwards - what message does that send to others.

Perception in the eyes of the watching public, that are quick to characterize people by what they wear, sometime citing 'trouble in the making'

Banning it will simply give the vile extremists more fuel. Having quickly looked at that FB page I suspect that many of the posters are the same ones who support the EDL and the like. Their beef is not about tolerance, it's about a lack of tolerance or understanding.

I loathe the burka and niqab but I can't see an outright ban having a positive outcome.

When I saw that page my first thought was that it's probably something cooked up by EDL, or someone/a group of that ilk.

My only thoughts about these items is that if women are wearing/being made to wear them because men can't control themselves at the sight of an uncovered nostril, then surely that's the man's issue not the woman's? Stick a bag over his head so he can't see! A society/culture that requires these items has over-sexualised women to a ridiculous degree.

Not banning it will embolden them and push for even more Islamic imposition. Not like keeping it will stop them from demanding even more special priviledges. At some point one has to say enough is enough with groups demanding special dispensation using religion as an excuse.

Niqab and Burqa are not like other religious symbols, the former 2 cover the entire face save the eyes, so you do not know who the person is. With the Kippah, Crucific , Hijab, Turban you can still see the person's face.
