British Comedy

is definately the best in my opinion, whilst I enjoyed Friends and the odd episode of Frasier I am definately in the camp of Brit is Best when it comes to comedy. Who's your favourite? Peter Kay?

Re: British Comedy

The americans have had a couple of amazing comedians, Bill Hicks, George Carlin and of course Matt Stone and Trey Parker..very different humour, great social critics. Pizze Be Upon Them.

Bill Bailey
Eddie Izzard (well, his early days)
Jeremy Paxman
Psychoville/League of Gentlemen
Frankie boyle (Scottish..but yer'all the same)

Perhaps because I'm not English, might be a cultural thing..but I can't stand Peter Kay. And whats with this moronic Harry Hill guy winning best comedian awards? He's total rubbish

My personal faves are :-
Jack Dee
Billy Connolly
Rufus Hound
Dave Gorman
James Corden

In terms of sit-coms I can only think of a few really funny British shows like Gavin & Stacey and The Office. But I never fail to fall about laughing at some US ones like Scrubs, Two & A Half Men and Friends!

I've got all the time in the world for a bit of Jimmy Carr. His arrogant approach appeals to me greatly for some reason.

Used to like Peter Kay and Lee Evans, but they've turned out to be one trick ponies unfortunately.

As for television programmes, i'd choose Fawlty Towers & Only Fools & Horses over any of the rubbish that's shown these days.

The likes of Little Britain, Gavin & Stacey and Inbetweeners aren't a patch on the old stuff.

I agree with that.

Listen to the jokes in his 2 standup DVDs and then watch phenoix nights. All the same material.

Absolutely.

It's all the same old "listen to me play on my accent and talk through my nose, because it made you laugh on the first 2 dvd's" - I got bored of it pretty quickly.

Sure, Phoenix Night and Max & Paddy were amusing, but they're not comedy genius by a long shot.

Plus One is worth downloading. It's is very weird, but I couldn't help watching it.

It's a C4 production. Can be found on the 4OD website.

He's got to that stage where he laughs more at his jokes than the audience does. Mrs Billy ought to tell him, she knows a thing or two about that sort of thing.

Re: British Comedy

Far from delusional... Many of the States' best comedians hail from Canada. Often they aren't listed as Canadians because they eventually change their nationality after achieving fame.

Jim Carrey
Phil Hartman
Terrance (South Park)
SCTV
The Kids in the Hall

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_comedians

particle.physics.ucdavis.edu/canadians/comedians.html

Mind you, I'm not Canadian... and the above lists aren't at all complete. In the states it's a pretty well known joke that their best comedians are from Canada. The joke being that the Canadians are so frozen and bored, that comedy is a survival skill.
