brill trip
Just back yesterday from a week or so in Syria!
Excellent time, even if it was with a group of language students from London on their abroad study year (man, that made me feel OLD)
So different to see a place that has real history... oldest continuously inhabited city (Cham) etc, the pre-Roman buildings and streets at Tadmur/Palmyra, Umayad mosques at Cham and Aleppo, gotta go back and do it slowwwly. Or see if I can get on a project there. Or anywhere!

Well I hope you capitalized on the opportunity to develop your Arabic linguistic skills!!!
Must tour the Fertile Crescent myself sometime - people tell me it's far more authentically Arab than the Khaleej....

JVR20 - go to Yemen, you won't regret it.
Am planning a trip to Hadramout and then to Socotra Island (home of the funkiest trees ever) later this year

Re: brill trip
It's beautiful, safe and friendly (the sa'ana and Aden regions are, some of the others are a bit mired in tribal conflict)
Sae'ed Felix Arabia indeed!!

The girl has offered to do a write up on where to go etc. I am not sure yet exactly what part she was in. It was nice to see a place with such culture.
