I think there's a slight caveat to be included in the 'our boat' bit. It's not our boat, it's just flying our flag and has no Brits on board.
If it were a boat from a British company with British flag and a British crew - the response might be more aggressive.
At the moment, we've got their boat in Gibraltar and the Iranians probably need that oil / cash from the oil more than we need someone else to have a boat back with our flag on it.
Also, I assume the Yanks are demanding we do fudge all with the boat in Gibraltar until they decide. But again, not really any great skin off our nose is it?
Or am I missing something completely here? I've not read enough on it all yet - this is all quite face value.
