Mine has it, its not just the light in the mirror. If you have a car in the left blind spot, eg on a motorway, then indicate left, it will bleep and vibrate the wheel which is useful. Theres another feature, it bleeps etc when you depart or change lanes, unless you are indicating that way... By having that [and all round cameras for parking] i actually get cheaper car insurance [the car gets into a lower group.]...

I had assumed that this worked off a sensor that covered everything from just behind the car through to being parallel to the drivers door? I see the light go on from before I am within 10 feet of a car and it's still on as I can no longer see it. That said, I haven't driven a car that has had the feature, so just a guess from me.

Mine uses radar in the mirrors plus there are 4 cameras that look at lines on the road and are also used for parking and parking assist. The radar isnt just for the blund spot, if you can see acar next to you and indicate that way anyway it will complain.

Oh god. I’m awfully good at double checking. Looking once shows you something, looking a second time means you have a chance of processing how fast it’s going.

I used to ride bikes all the time in my yoof, i was a member of a lical bike club with around 100 members. After 4 years, 6 had died, 2 were at fault, 4 were just in the wrong place or not observant enough [manhole gratings are the worst..l] Then after a major scare on a kwacker 1000 turbo i gave it up in favour of fast cars, just as much a hooligan, but with more crumple zone etc etc... I am one of the few to roll an audi rs4 convertable and see the pop up rollbar actually work [it does!]

I thought it was standard on most mid and upper range cars in the gulf as they usually come full option.

Is this Mission going through the BMW options list? Don’t forget to tick wing mirrors or you’ll have nowhere to put the blind spot thingys and it’ll spoil the look of the car just dangling in the wind.

Oh hey! And don’t forget to order all six wheels. One on each corner, one in front of you and one in the boot.

On a serious note, don’t let them sell you run flats. They cost a fortune, destroy the BMW ride and feel and cost mortgages when they do eventually blow, which they will. I lost two in one track day at Yas with my 335 and had to call out a tire firm to get home.

I’ve had a few beemers and generally found them reasonable. The issue in Dubai is AGMC not the cars. The worst dealer by a country mile.

Abu Dhabi Motors has a better reputation, so maybe worth the hassle of the once a year service in another Emirates...

So you probably do look over your shoulder on occasions too but just don't know it. As I say, its automatic and you probably don't realise how much you do check etc. It's like on those long drives when you know where you are going and just daydream until you realise you have arrived. You don't think you have been checking but you have got there with crashing so you must have been.

I learnt to ride just after Uni. I had been in the casino and had won a tidy sum so decided to do the direct access 1 week intensive course with the test at the end, and it was really good. They full on batter into you the safety element of it and then teach you real world handling skills such as counter steering, object avoidance (if you look at it you will hit it), looking far enough ahead, road positioning etc. Things that you actually need on the road to keep you alive. These are things that I don't believe many (not all) riders who just got a bike and taught themselves appreciate. Having someone follow you all the time talking in your ear via a mike was a great way to learn.

As for cars, I've been driving since I was about 12 (grew up in the country). By 12 or 13 I had two minis which i'd bought for 100 quid a pop. One for thrashing on the mountain and quarry roads, teaching myself to handbrake, J-turn etc and the second I was re-buiding, so by the time learning to drive on the road came about I was very calm and comfortable. So before I got into bikes I had already been into hot hatches, and I used to thrash them to bits on the country roads and I developed the skills to do that, however, I know I don't have the bike skills necessary to do the same on two wheels, and so I ride accordingly. As you say though you are very vulnerable. I've owned 3 bikes here in Dubai and used to use my GSX-R 750 to commute in the winter and you really need to ride defensively with the belief that absolutely everyone is trying to kill you.

As soon as you mentioned a Kwakker turbo though it became clear you had a deathwish!

As for rolling.... I managed to get my Wranger end over end and then onto its side in the dunes once.....

was told last night it's not an option on the M2
Beemer gave me a 420i convertible yesterday to use, while they kept my car to do a 'technical revaluation'....gotta say, unless you put it into sports mode, it wasn't very nice to drive.

the M2 which i am considering buying vibrates the steeling wheel when you either swerve into a lane or change lanes without indicating

The car comes with full options - that's how they sell the car with full specs...but i was wondering if an option could be added ie the blind spot one, was told last night it's not an option on the M2
