Only 5% earn £60k or above. The gap between low incomes and high incomes has also been widening dramatically. I don;t have the numbers now but will do some numbercruching later.

It was a discussion between The Dean and his wife - she whinges that booze is so expensive here; I point out that, in our circumstances, you have to make the 40 pct adjustment calculation before getting a valid comparison. I agree that this theoretically applies to all consumer goods but the thread had been discussing booze, hence............

If 60K refers to the gross salary before tax then that statistic (if accurate) is rather scary. On my present UAE salary, I would need over 70K GBP to receive the same equivalent wage packet as here, including the free housing but deducting school fees. If I returned home, however, there is no way I would find a job paying much more than 40K GBP before tax, hence the scary comment.

I know , there's some cocktails flying around at the St Regis at 120 chips a pop as well .
Saying that i paid 27 quid for a bottle of lager and a champagne cocktail in Claridges in London a few month ago ....Daylight robbery as they say !
