It's astonishing, isn't it? Given the high cost of living and especially housing how can there only be 5% who make 60K or more?

Only 5% earn £60k or above. The gap between low incomes and high incomes has also been widening dramatically. I don;t have the numbers now but will do some numbercruching later.

Nope, just a normal glass of wine. I will be having words with F and B though, I think the staff are just giving the most expensive Chardonnay instead of the house one !!.

If 60K refers to the gross salary before tax then that statistic (if accurate) is rather scary. On my present UAE salary, I would need over 70K GBP to receive the same equivalent wage packet as here, including the free housing but deducting school fees. If I returned home, however, there is no way I would find a job paying much more than 40K GBP before tax, hence the scary comment.

Saying that i paid 27 quid for a bottle of lager and a champagne cocktail in Claridges in London a few month ago ....Daylight robbery as they say !
