Re: alan shearer
he's not daft though, he can't lose ( unless they lose every game a la Niall Quinn )
keeps them up he's a hero, they get relegated and it's not his fault. He'll certainly mobilise the cartoon army, sky sports will have a field day outside sid james today with every knacker for 50 miles scurrying to be seen on the telly.
You can't polish a turd though, they're down there for a reason and anal can't put the number 9 on, he'll have to rely on shola ameobi

The Geordies are very quiet on here this morning. Do they think the Alan Shearer story is an April Fools joke perhaps?

similar thing happened at Morecambe a few seasons ago. Jim Harvey had a heart attack minutes before a game. They got Sammy Mcilroy in to take over until Harvey had recovered (Harvey was his assistant for N.Ireland). When Harvey recovered they sacked him and gave the job to Sammy full time.

from nufc.com
SkySports aired unconfirmed reports from Tyneside on Tuesday evening that Alan Shearer had been appointed as Newcastle United first team manager for the final eight games of the season.
The proximity to April 1st initially caused us to dismiss this completely, but the Sky correspondent in the region was in ultra-smug mode when relaying the story - that's the same bloke who spent the last day of the transfer window showing viewers emails in his inbox from M.Ashley esq.
And by 23.19 Sky were running the story as confirmed and asserting that Shearer will be presented to the media on Thursday. That confirmation was then echoed by the BBC and the Chronicle and various other new outlets.
Shearer becomes our fourth manager of a mad season and while he's totally unproven in the job, has more feeling for this club in his spit than Kinnear and Hughton combined.
He could scarcely do worse than them.
Some more random thoughts:
As he's not under contract can Al register as a player? He may have retired through injury three years ago but would still surely be able to give us more than Viduka.
We aren't sure whether he has the UEFA Pro Licence, despite being reportedly only "a few months away" from obtaining it in December 2007.
ESPN are stating that he does not have it yet, although dispensation is likely to be given for his temporary role, with Glenn Roeder and Gareth Southgate setting precedents.
The ticket office opens at 9am for all those season ticket holders who now wish to reinstate the tickets that they've been cancelling.
Joe Kinnear's reaction to the news has not yet been documented, but we're led to believe it began with the letter 'F'. It's one way of testing out his rewired heart....
We also await news of Dennis Wise's future at the club. If Wise and Keegan were never going to hit it off, then Big Al being answerable to little Den is simply unthinkable.

Re: alan shearer
Sorry but I had to intervene and stop you creating a record for the most consecutive posts on a single thread, Spugsy. Incidentally, there was a report on tribalfootball.com that MCFC would announce at 11am today the sacking of Chief Executive Geoff Cook which would mean Mark Hughes would probably follow, but it now seems to have been an April Fools prank. Hope your Shearer story isn't one too.
