WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
I thought I would send along an update on Linzi who went back to Lancashire from Arizona last year. I am fortunate to be friends with her on facebook as I don't think she has posted in a long time.
She has been very unwell, and now can no longer work, at least for the foreseeable future. I will not post the details as I respect her privacy. If she wishes she may do so herself. So I am just asking all of you who remember her, and how encouraging she was for so many of us on BE, to take time to post a little something to brighten her day. Thank you dear Brits! |

I also believe she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia if I recall a post she made towards the back end of last year. That can be a physically exhausting condition and I can understand why she may not be able to continue with the job she had when she first returned. Hopefully rest will allow her to figure out how to manage the condition and she can be back on her feet soon as I do remember she was doing a lot of walking and visiting new places on her days off.
Take care Whofan and hope too hear from you soon. |
Re: WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
To my dear friends on BE, thank you so much for your wonderful words of support. It did indeed cheer me up to come on here to read what you wrote. :)
I've had so much going on health wise that I'm sorry I just haven't been able to come on here to see what everyone has been up to and update you all with my goings on. As Liz and Perth know I've managed to go onto Facebook a couple of times to check in there, but I get tired very easily so I'm not online for long. For the past couple of months it seems like anything that could go wrong with me, did! As most of you know I have fibromyalgia, which I was able to control to a degree with tablets, at least enough to be able to function without too many difficulties. But it gradually got tot he stage where even those tablets weren't doing anything to take away the pain. Then I got a very bad gastro bug which had me in bed for over a week, and before I could even recover completely from that I immediately got a bad chest infection. I didn't know whether I was coming or going..lol. To top it all off my liver decided it was going to give up on me and I ended up in hospital because the paracetamol in the medication I was taking, was just building up in my system and not going anywhere so it was in effect a paracetamol overdose. I was apparently so close to complete liver failure and I was admitted and pumped full of these really AWFUL drugs to counter-act the damage to my liver, and to reduce the high levels and give it a chance to recover. Luckily the liver can bounce back although I'be been told I'm going to have to be very careful what I take over the next 3 months if not longer. Then shortly after being discharged I started having excrutiating pain in my bones..the actual bone itself not just the joints. It felt like everything was happening at once and I didn't have time to recover from any of them. My energy levels plummeted and I started to be tired all the time, with no energy just lots of pain. So now I'm having more tests to determine the cause of all this pain and lethargy. They've thrown at me the possible results of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so I'm adding that to the list of things wrong with me..lol. I can no longer enjoy the long walks in the country.Gone are the days where I would just go out and walk for 5 hours. There are days when i can barely get out of bed, but on the 'good' days I feel a sense of achievement if I can walk to the end of the road. I need a cane to hold onto because I have trouble making my legs work properly. From the back I'm sure it looks like I'm drunk because of the way I walk As Perth mentioned I've had to give up work hopefully temporarily and I'm on sickness benefits so I at least have some money coming in. I'm just not able to stand for any great length of time and the same goes for sitting and moving around in general. Hopefully the Dr's can figure out what they are going to do, but at the moment we're just waiting for the results of the blood tests which hopefully won't point in a more serious direction. Sufficed to say I look out the window and see the beautiful hills and wish I could go up them again, so I'm staying positive and exercising as much as my body will allow, pushing myself a little more each time just to get out and about. I go to the canal where I sit and watch the ducks and rest, all in preparation for the walk back. So it's onward and upward and I'm not going to let this beat me! :D I've way too much to see yet and too many walks left to do. |

Whofan, what an awful time you have had and you still manage to stay positive. I am thinking of you and hope that it won't be too long before the doctors figure out what is wrong and can treat you accordingly. Take care. I am sending you a big hug!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear of everything you are going through. I read your posts with such interest, you have a real way with words. We are moving back in June hopefully to somewhere near your part of the world - I remember really enjoying your bus ride video - made me long to be back!
Take care, take things slowly and good luck. |
Re: WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
Linzi, I'm honestly always amazed at how your posts are always so upbeat and jovial, even with all that you've been going through for the last few months. Most people with half of what you've been through would be wallowing in self pity and woe, and yet here you are all bouncy and seemingly happy (or at least that's how I read it anyway)
Also, it just shows how good the NHS is despite what some would have us believe. I think I mentioned to you on Facebook once, can imagine how much all this would have cost you under the private US healthcare system  Keep smiling :) |

Re: WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
Whofan, reading about your ordeal and how you are coping leaves me with much admiration of you. Thank goodness you are in England because I am sure you will be looked after. Good for you having such a positive outlook and I wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to updates from you when you are better and walking in those hills again. Take care of yourself. Are you still with those two lovely chaps?

Re: WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
Oh no Whofan, I'm sorry to hear you haven't been well :( I think about you often and have been wondering how you are.
You were defiantly an inspiration to me in the move back, I was impressed with all the walking and hard work. Are you still living in the same place with the guys and the dogs? |

I just read this and wanted to add my good wishes. I always enjoyed your posts from over there on the wrong side of the border () and I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. I am keeping everything crossed for good test results and quick recovery. Lots of love and hugs.

Re: WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
I'm so sorry you have been having such an awful time, you have been through so much in such a short time it must be so hard. I really hope they are able to figure out what is going on with the pain you are feeling and that it is something easily helped.
I can well imagine you are also suffering from exhaustion because you job is so physical and shift work is notorious for playing havoc with people's health. Try to stay in good spirits, I know it can't be easy even though that is your natural disposition, get lots and lots of rest and hopefully things will soon be better. You really, really deserve to catch a break and some good luck. Please keep checking in and updating us when you feel up to it. Sending you hugs! |
Re: WhoFan update - Please post a little note!
Hi Whofan,
Really sorry to hear about all your health worries! As you know, I followed your journey home and you were totally loving it and having a great time. You seem like a really positive person who can overcome anything. Heres hoping you are able to enjoy the English Countryside, and maybe get back to work, soon xxx |
