When I was young child growing up in Harris Children's Home - we had fields to play in. Good source for stinging nettles was to use dock leave...

No, sorry! I need a supermarket, cinema and restaurants within five miles or I hyperventilate!

I don't usually quote my own posts, but a lot of the funding for air ambulances comes from running charity shops, so using them, giving them stuff to sell is all good. I currently have gift aid cards for 5 charity shops, which means when I donate, they get an extra 30% as I'm a UK tax payer.

What are the names of some of the charity shops which support Air Ambulances?

I will look out for them.

Damned things really nip any exposed skin and how come I can never find any dock when I get stung? I thought there was always supposed to be dock in close proximity to nettles?
I'd take an acre of stinging nettles in exchange for a couple of poison ivy plants!

Fly tipping. Junk just tossed onto the roadside. So sad.

Getting chased by geese! I was when I went to the local farm earlier today to buy some eggs and they thought I was getting too close to the chicken coop. (Apparently they are fantastic burglar deterrents).

Thanks for all the input. Will watch out for cow pats!

What about wind turbines - are they much of an issue these days ?

And what about fog? How often is that problematic?

And are there any problems with the internet... or even snail mail delivery?

Oh yes! Watched an eight on the Cam being challenged by a vengeful male (well, assume it was dad, mum was on the nest) the other day!

Fog - drive slow
Internet - 10 times faster than Transact in ACT
Wind Turbines - neater looking than the maze of pylons but still a waste of money
Snail mail - comes through the door, even on Saturdays! And they use common sense and leave parcels with neighbours, and the village PO stays open until 12 on Saturdays!

BUT - supermarkets shut at 4pm on Sundays!!!!!

That's just two hours earlier for the supermarkets to close there than here. I can live with that.

As for the mail... when I went to the mail box, outside in the rain, this morning and put my hand into the dark ants nest to pull out the soggy bank statements... I wondered if things were still straight through the door in the UK. Am pleased to hear they are.

They are usually Specific to the air ambulance in the area they are, so normally have the name of the air ambulance in the shop name.

Tourists. Other than that the countryside in the UK cannot, imo, be bettered anywhere in NZ or Oz. OK, the weather's crap but the countryside is wonderful- little lanes dripping with wildflowers, historic footpaths, ancient hills, beech woods, market towns, and all the lovely countryside smells (not the farming smells- yuck) like the gorse, the wild garlic, the cut grass- it's bloody marvelous.
