Sorry to jump in on this conversation, just wanted to have my say.
Yes Aussies are sexist, arrogant and ignorant , I've been in Oz for 9 years now and had enough, I also feel the media here in Oz do not help ....absolute thickies all of them..well most anyway.

Well, thank you for allowing me my say.
On my way back to the UK within the next six months along with my wife and kids and can't wait !!!

Oh well done Mike. How's all the planning going and where are you off to? Make sure you keep us all updated with the process- I certainly hope to be heading the same way. Bit hard for us though with older kids...yikes! We've been here 22 yrs...and the kids don't want to go. I'm terrified at all the stories from the ping pongs...just don't want to go the same way as we're far too old for that scenario.

I'm not sure exactly where in the UK as yet, I will actually have to go out there before Tracee and the children in order to secure a job..I will most likley stay at mums first in Hyde near Stockport.
We presently live in Springfield Lakes , Brisbane...looks nice but all man made and everyones in bed by 9.00pm even at the weekends.?

Know what you mean....after all these years here, most of our friends are 'foreigners'. Just back from a great game of badminton with a local club - not an Aussie in sight. Everyone (ok, apart from us) were Chinese. Next weekend we'll be seeing Sri-Lankan friends of ours. What I want more than anything though is the sound of a familiar accent, the smell of stale beer down at the pub and to be called 'luv'....and I NEVER thought I'd hear myself say that!!!!!

House not selling for us. Almost same reason for leaving NZ. NZ we ran out of money due to the cost of living and no work for the wife. Had to leave Oz because house has not sold and i went on my own then had the kids but it dragged on too long having the family split like this. Had to do it this way because of my job offer. No sure way of success apart from winning the lottery.

To be 100% honest, here the media is in constant doom & gloom mood. I think it drives people to look to move overseas.
When infact there are some excellent areas to live in the UK that are not rife with knife crime and chavs on every corner. Shame people don't look closer to home when looking for a better life. If we return from Aus (if we get there) we'll head straight back to North Yorks, as is a really great place

Totally agree - we also come from a beautiful place in the uk - I have to say that there is absolutely nothing here in Oz (at the moment) that is half as good as we had at home - we're gonna give it a good try but who knows ........

North Yorkshire sounds good, bet they have some decent little pubs where people actually talk to each other instead of looking at some poker machine in a zombie like state or watching the morons V the blues every year ....yawn yawn boring stuff.

Exactly! And decent conversation that doesn't revolve around sport, property prices and home baking (for the women) and machismo (for the men). :curse: Oh how I long to be around funny and intelligent people with character and substance.

Well said .

This concludes that I go back to my green and pleasant land and take my young family with me.
Another down side to Oz is the percentage of women obsessed with sport, butch lot they are....

'Sexist, arrogant and ignorant'? Hmm and I've just invited my mate Bill's son to stay with me for a week.

We'll get along just fine if he realizes that the footie season starts VERY soon and all our activities will have to fit in with that.
