Oh I love Greg's cornish Pasties.........use to buy them for our boys while walking around the local Market on a Saturday morning......oh to have days like that again....heaven........agree with everything else you have said.......we are waiting to sell our home and move back to the U.K and the way I feel this morning I will be glad never, ever to visit Aus again.......people say "never say never"....well I am and I mean it..........

Try watching the Olympic or Commonwealth games here in Aus.....you are shown an Aussie coming 5th rather than who came 1st,2nd,3rd...I have watched an Aussie being awarded a Bronze but not shown who won the Gold and Silver......as for the Olympic Tourch....the Aussie's learnt from the the U.K and France (with our fair coverage of news in Europe....well maybe not fair)...but the Aussie's did not inform the rest of the world about the heavy Police coverage (Police were brought in from other States to help) and the closing of roads in a wide radius of the tourch relay.......makes the Aussie's look very good......everyone is happy here, no crime, no violence.....Utopia.........NOT

The torch relay was a major w*nkfest. The bulk of the crowd were rentacrowd Chinese who had been bussed in by the thousand. Any dissenting voice was jumped on by the young Chinese flag wavers - some of the local stories of people being harassed and even attacked are quite horrifying. Our local paper had headlines like "we showed the world" or some such garbage. Most locals kept away I think and took a day off to make the weekend an even longer weekend than the normal long weekend!
Funny someone said the sausages here in Oz were a bit dismal and they are too, full of grizzle and lumpy bits..I tend to eat the pork sausages, stay away from the ones that say Aussie beef sausage.
Yep I would love to go back to the UK, main reason being aussies who are just so full of themselves...however I blame most of this on the one eyed media whom just appear to be getting worse.

I just believe the Aussies over do it when it comes to celebrating 'Aussie - ness"
I've just so had this Austrailianess pushed in my face to the point where it is very irritating . When I lived in the UK I didn't push Englishness on people ...you often hear the phrase here in Oz that someone is "un-australian", the media use it often. It's almost like they are trying to create this mythical aussie..but there is good and bad in all races not just aussies. It's not proud it's obsessive (jingoistic)As regards St Patricks day no problem I enjoy a Guinness or two with anyone who's not up them self.

It's a pot of flaming custard. I don't like the stuff, and I think she thought I'd eat it if it was Australian!!

Just thought I let you know that if your OH is a teacher then in certain states if oyu get your years of service verified then you can go up the corresponding steps. I.e. If you have had 7 years experience and can verify that then you can start on step 7 etc. Helps with the salary massively.

I think you have to try to respect the Australians in regards to Anzac day it is more about their sense of identity and birth of being truly Australian.
I also never take any flak about Anzac day as I am from a northern town that alone lost 515 men at Gallipoli. In fact The Lancashire Fusiliers lost 1,727 in total. So really that puts it in perspective for anyone.
In some ways I think it is sad that facts like that are not widely known in the UK or Australia.

I did rather like 'custard yoghurt' - never found that in England - enjoyed it one incredible night in Surfers circa '94, mixed with 'magic' NSW mushrooms, courtesy of my mate 'Bondi' Bill who was my 'tour leader' for that particular trip.

Yes, yes and yes! My OH is a linesman and we got TRA and skilled migration visa based upon this - after 50 or so job applications with no success (strange that though they wanted his skill) we finally found one company who would take him on as a 'trades assistant' until he could get his electrical licence. Now we are here he now apaently needs certificate III before he can even get his licence and his boss (who by the way is being brilliant) is now trying to get his skills assessed and converted over here which could take months by the sounds of it! It's a joke - he has 18 years experience in the uk! They harp on about wanting skilled workers - no they dont or this wouldn't happen - so as you can tell he is mightily fed up big time - he cant even go on site with the line crew! Never thought the rental would be so expensive either - we are paying $1700 per month here in Canberra so that along with the huge cut in wages we took is causing a strain too! Blimey I've wanted this for 15 years - finally get here and we're so miserable - can't believe I'm saying this! Surely things can only get better!
