Oh thanks Quoll, that means a lot.
I read your posts with interest and you are always so wise. Will bear in mind what you've said when faced with the opposition!

........I look at my friends' kids and they have all done just fine. They are all happy, healthy, employed and partnered and their life experiences have probably been broader than my kids had when they were growing up. England didnt do them any harm.
Just ignore the doomsayers and head off in your own direction! Good luck!

You don't get that in Oz - or the US for that matter.

I honestly wouldn't worry at all. The "obnoxious little runts in hoodies" who I've encountered have all held doors open for me and smiled nicely. Don't know if it's just because I smile sweetly at them but they are all pleasant enough to me. I know from TV and newspapers that there are some nasty little beggars around but the majority are just normal kids out with their mates. They are absolutely no different to how we were at that age.

Just wondering what is the main reason for people moving back to UK from Aus, is it down to missing family, not earning enough, disliking Australia or what?
We're heading off to Aus sometime in next 2 years and at times I do wonder what we're giving up and the risks involved, but have an itch that I must scratch.
Please give us some pointers to potential pitfalls

I am married to an Australian girl and have been in Australia for over eight years , i also have two young children , the main reason I would like to return to the UK is the lack of respect by the Australian media towards people from the UK, often refered to as a whinging pom for no good reason at all, they also are learning to hate the Brits over Anzac Day and cricket ....they go on and on and on about both subjects. If you are not proud of your nationality then yes Australia would be good place to be , but beware of the big mouth ignorant Aussies who carp on and on because the media here encourage them to do so.

Husband out last night and his brother told him he thinks we are stupid to be heading back. "Think of the opportunities for the kids". Why do people find it necessary to force their opinions on us? I wouldn't dream of forcing my views on someone else even though I can fully accept and appreciate their reasons for living here and wanting to make it home.
My OH is a strong character and stopped him in his tracks while I on the other hand can see things I will miss here and just don't want to hear any conflicting views,I just want to be left to get on with it as it's hard enough already. I know I want to go home and I know when we get there that I will fell like my old self again and hopefully regain my confidence so wish these people would just be helpful and butt out.
The decision for me to move back is much more about missing out on a life with family and friends. My husband sees Perth as very limiting, geographically and socially. The kids love it but don't all little kids love their life whether they are splashing in puddles, sledging, making sandcastles, kicking up leaves or if we're honest watching the TV for hours on end because it's too hot or cold!!!
We left with a baby and toddler as I've said and they are so much easier now so life will be very different to two years ago.
OOOH I'm in a right mood now!

To be honest, I don't quite think it is the same. Everything seems to be 'proudly Australian' - you see it all the time, everywhere. On utes, businesses, the TV, packets of food - there's not a day goes by without you see it. It's just not the 'same story everywhere' - you certainly don't have 'Proudly British' or 'Proudly British owned' slapped on everything in the UK.
