Welcome Home.. So excited for another person to decide to make the journey home. It takes courage, planning, determination, faith and a little luck. You did it and I am happy for your. Now you can get settled in and enjoy your family, friends and all that the UK has to offer. Sometimes it takes being away for one to truly appreciate what we left behind. I know if or when I go back I will look upon the UK with a new set of eyes. It's got so many marvelous places to visit. Take care, we're all rooting for you.

You are all so kind but it is not so simple. Divorce decree states he must pay the mortgage until it is sold. I paid off half the house upon marriage, furnished it, fenced, sprinkler etc. my furnishings include many irreplaceable antiques. If I leave, he says he will default on the mortgage and it will go to the bank. I do believe he will win this one. I have so much to loose. Truly at 69 I now need the money. It's for the rest of my life.

Well don't forget to post all your details so we can cheer you one, wave at the plane etc etc and most importantly do a running commentary about where you are at any given moment like we did for Miss Betty!:thumbsup:

How terribly sad that your ex is being vindictive and controlling in this way

Is the house up for sale right now? Who is living in it, you or him?

Both of us. I'm afraid he will stop paying the mortgage if I don't cook, do laundry, shopping etc., In 16 years everything I loved has disappeared. Like Miss Betty...I have no self esteem and live scared. No the house is not yet on the market.

Thank you so much! It seemed at times like I'd never get here. I do appreciate the UK much more and I find it a wee bit irritating that people are so prepared to put the UK down all the time. Since I've been back I wish I had a pound for every person whose said to me "Ooh bet you're missing the sunshine!" which I find rather perplexing as both days I walked into town first thing in glorious sunshine! Sure it wasn't that warm but it was great all rugged up striding into town not sweating and feeling nauseous from the heat. My legs ache from walking so much! I'm still in Amsterdam atm and I have walked my little legs off these past few days. I'll pop into a wifi cafe as soon as I'm back with a full update but I can confirm I'm very very happy. It's early days but NO palpitations at all since I've been back, sleeping like a baby and no crying whatsoever. I feel very peaceful and it's just fantastic!

MissBetty,

So glad its going well and you are enjoying your time in Amsterdam!

I think people probably say "you must be missing the sunshine" just as something to say a sort of automatic response, a way to be friendly, to relate to you and to show they know at least something about Australia ;) They don't realize that they are the 10th person to say it to you that morning! Just wait till your in the UK in the winter I bet you'll hear it continuously. ;)

Looking forward to lots of updates from you!!

Have you spoken to your children about this? They are both professionals with good incomes. Could they not help you transition to NI?
