I am from Surrey, I like the countryside, I like having family and friends, I like to feel like I fit in and I belong, which here I kind of feel like a square peg in a round hole, my husband thought we would have a better quality of life, spend more time together, but he is always working, which is not what he expected.

We spend less time together now than we did before, and he spends a lot less time with his children, which I know he finds hard.

I will go back, just not sure when
oh ok sorry to hear that i dont feel i fit in here in NZ so i know what you mean

We've came back unexpectedly 9 weeks ago. I would warn anyone to think hard about giving up a good job to come back simply down to boredom. We're really struggling here at the mo due to lack of work. If I could turn back the clock, boredom seems like heaven right now. Obviously, this is our experience and our opinion.

Good luck on the job hunting, I have been back 9 months now, I was unemployed for 3 months and had a few black days of self doubt and wondering what I had done as the $$$$$ dwindled away. Then I got a job and have been there 6 months, and it's turned out to be a really awful job but I leave on Friday and I have another job lined up.

I think you have to give it a good year to settle down and find your feet and get some stability.

9 weeks is nothing though - surely you can't have expected to have a job so quickly? I think people moving back need to be realistic about how long it takes to find a job. Currently that's at 3-9 months depending on seniority. Expecting to land and get settled in just a few weeks is a recipe for disaster in this economy.

I think this is good advice. If you read the papers it looks like there might be another big recession coming to Britain next year so the job situation could get even worse. People should expect a lot of competition for jobs and longer waits and plan ahead I suppose.

The problem is this time it could hit Australia pretty hard, because there is a 'boom' in mining hasn't helped most other sectors and with the massive slowdown in China expect to see a real slowdown here. Don't forget it isn't uncommon for people in this country (Australia) to be unemployed for 6, 12 or more months. I have long ago given up planning my life according to what the papers say, life is too short.

I agree but with Britain it's not just the papers but the government and OECD that are saying there will be a recession next year.

I have been through so many recessions here and the UK over the years I just can't get concerned about them anymore, I never lost a job because of one and none of our friends did either. It isn't making the slightest difference to our plans to return, as I said life is too short.

The fall-out from the stuff going on in Europe means there could well be a recession all over the world next year, and we'll all be affected. The US economy is starting to make a tentative recovery thanks to our government avoiding the 'austerity' route, but if Europe collapses, we'll crash back into recession too. In the end, you just have to get on with your life and worry only about the things you can control.
