Default Living in Ireland, working remotely for US company?

Hello!

I'm shortly to be marrying my Canadian man - I'm a UK/Irish citizen. We have a plan to move to Ireland next year...this is mostly because we can't live together in the UK. Right now he works remotely for a US company, pays taxes there, is an official resident etc. I know he can't do that in the UK. We did spend 2 months in Germany and his company were ok with that. We spoke to german immigration and it seems they didn't care about his telecommuting as long as he wasn't interfering with the german job market.

Now we've said we want to actually move to Ireland the company are kicking up a fuss and saying he needs a work visa.

I wondered if anyone knows anything about the rules on working whilst in Ireland before we get his stamp 4? As a canadian he can be in the country for 90 days. During this time can he keep telecommunting?

Any advice appreciated --- I've tried contacting Irish lawyers but so far no luck on this

You might want to read through this
Taxes & Duties. You're best off contacting Revenue directly to be on the safe side.

As far as work permits go, the Irish government doesn't need to know about his employment because he is not employed or paid in Ireland. He doesn't work in Ireland unless he is paid in Ireland by an Irish employer.

What about a specialist who has to work on a project in Ireland for his foreign employer? Would he have to obtain a work permit? I reckon not.

I am employed as MD of an Irish company, but I live in South Africa. As far as tax goes, there is a double taxation treaty, so I pay personal tax in Ireland and none in South Africa.
