I would imagine they provide they same security, but I prefer the
waist-belt because the pressure of it on your waist is masked by the
general pressure around your belt, and the neck-pounch is constantly
itchy, hot, and very very obvious that you are wearing it... it just
looks goofy. The drawback to the wait-belt is that it takes some
practice to access it while keeping your trousers on. Therefore I keep
the equivalent of $20 in a front pocket and my hand on it when I am
just walking around. This is gelato money and if it is lifted then my
trip isn't ruined.

My experience of both is seeing them on sale in shops and thinking
"what a complete waste of time and money - I'll just keep my money in
my pocket like I always do".

This technique has survived the horrors of Paris, Rome (the gauntlet of
Termini station), Nigeria, India etc etc etc.

But they are not only used for cash.

Most people use them for their Passport, tickets, spare CC & ATM cards,
reservation print-outs, etc.
This way they are somewhere safe when actually travelling between
points esp when passing thru places like train stations and possibly
using crowded public transport.

Add in possible jet-lag, sometimes confusion and carrying luggage and
it's easy to become distracted.

Once at my hotel all that stuff goes into the room safe or my luggage,
I never use them while in the cities or towns. Regards, Walter

Then I hope they have good strong neck muscles.

Most people don't use them at all.

Just the card, not the whole ATM.

Note that in quite a number of places it's important to carry your
passport or some good ID on you.

Carried on you != Super-Glue'd to your testicles.

Tattooed ID numbers are coming back into fashion in Ritalalaland.

My response was about only using them for cash.

As an aid to their paranoia?

In Western Europe usually Italy I always carry my US driver's license.

If going on a distance daytrip I'll take my Passport just in case,
except the one time I really needed it:(.

Last year in Rome the tour company I've used often (limited small
groups [6], hi-end, archaeologists-art historians-published authors etc
as tour guides) offered me a free Rome-Pompeii daytrip (1st/C Eurostar,
minivan pick-up in Naples, guided tour of Pompeii, a bit of Naples and
the Archaeological Museum) which is normally 250e.

We had a Naples Guide for the day and the company also hires a licensed
Pompeii guide just to cover the legal territorial bullshit involved at
Pompeii.

Our 1st stop is the Suburban Baths and then 2 policemen show-up.
The guides are now in a heated argument with the cops.
One cop is staring at me the whole time and then walks over and just
says "Passport" but none of the others were asked (30ish Gay couple and
a small petite woman).

I'm thinking at this point the cops are looking for someone fitting my
description (long hair, beard, big & ugly:) and I have no ID.

But then I remembered I did put my driving license with my CC and cash
in my money clip.
Which they accepted as ID and then asked the others who all had
Passports.
And wrote down all the info.

Later the guides seemed embarrassed and wouldn't talk about the
incident which lasted ~20min.
It just seemed to me that the cops were trying to shake-down the Rome
tour company for a bribe?
We were afterall just 5 people who hired a legally licensed on-site
Pompeii guide for a tour. Regards, Walter

Yes foreign tourists never get pickpocketed in Rome, Paris, Barcelona
etc.

And the posters who post about these incidents, guidebook/website
warnings, people I have met and 3 attempts on me personally is really
just our group ****in' paranoia.

BTW; Do you ever post anything of value or just moronic one-liners
hoping to get into a pissing contest?
I always skip over your posts rather than waste my time reading your BS
but perhaps I and the others who have killfiled you are missing
something.

But whatever, I'm finished here.
