Default Vienna

three full days and nights will be spent in Vienna
Please give me what could be accomplished
We will be coming off a riverboat cruise on the Rhine,Main and Danube so =
no boat stuff.
We really want to see what can reasonably be seen and experienced in =
Vienna.
We can walk or hop on and off the bus.
We are up to walking and just seeing things or visiting sights and =
spending lots of time within the sights.
We have no pre set ideas so any ideas are welcomed.
Thanks

What are your interests? Music, museums, palaces..etc.
What time of year will you be in Vienna?
Do you have lodging booked?

we are interested in shopping
we are interested in cemetaries, old ones
young and energetic newly 60, 2 couples!
we are interested in what other tourists like and what should reasonably =

that are not necessarily in the tour books that we have already read.
food interests us, modestly priced excellent food

You are going to love Wien!
First off let me give you a site for cultural events:
http://www.magwien.gv.at/english/culture.htm

Just click on "calender of events" and go from there.
The Kunsthistoriches museum of art, and Schoenbrun Palace are two places I
highly recommend to as a must see. June will be crowded so anywhere popular
you should go to either before 10:00 am or after 4:00 pm.
That way you will avoid most of the masses of TOUR BUSES. Make sure you
check out the beautiful gardens surrounding Schoenbrun, they are
magnificent.
I've got to run right now but check out our site from one of our trips to
Vienna http://alexstarke.tripod.com/
You can e-mail me through the site if you want. I can give you many more
tips so feel free to correspond with me.

Regards;
Alex

Go, as soon as you are able, to the large underground complex at the
beginning of the pedestrian street, K=E4rtnerstrasse, opposite the Opera
House and near the Sacher Hotel.
Take the escalator down and find the tourist bureau. Hundreds of folders
and people to help you.

Reservations can be made there; but I am quite sure that on three days'
notice you will not get an opera ticket, nor to the horses, even if they
are there at the time.

Unless you are real museum-goers [and there tens of wonderful ones] ask
for a map and the interesting areas, all of which can be walked with the
(previous, and easy) use of the subway.

Everything is expensive in Vienna (even Macdonalds!), so don't be
surprised regarding purchases. -- Though, even now, the dollar isn't too
bad .

Be sure to walk the length of the K=E4rtnerstrasse and visit the upper
floor of the crystal company Lobmeyer, which is a museum, since they
have been in business for hundreds of years.

Regarding museums: The best is, of course, the Art Museum, and next the
Museum of Applied Art [Angewante Kunst--?sp].

"It doesn't matter what you do in the bedroom as long as you don't do
it in the street and frighten the horses".

I loved the summer palace, Schonbrun. You take a train out - check out the
info at the tourist bureau. Expect it to take a fair part of a day.
