I missed your earlier message. Would you mind posting the info
about the flat again. I don't expect to visit Venice again this
year, but maybe next year.

No, I apologize. I trust your judgement and if you recommend it I believe
you. But next time I go to the website I'll turn off the sound!

The music IS a bit soppy. Odd. The melody is one he used in a classical
quartet that won a Gold Lion Award two years ago. But the quartet was not
like that. On the second page there is a link to some info about nite
life -- Piero plays piano on it with a group of jazz musicians and it is
rather nice. He keeps after me to do a concert with him, but I think I am
past it. Really a nice guy, and a very thoughtful landlord.

OK, so turn down the sound. At least on the first page.

In which case you will be disappointed. I didn't think the Lido was so
great. The vast majority of the beaches are private with walls blocking off
the view from the street. The town is pleasant, but not unlike lots of towns
in Italy. The only thing special is the vaporetto to Venice.
Staying in Mestre or the Lido is just not the Venice experience. Better than
nothing but not the real Venice experience.

Thanks. My problem isn't the sound; it's how to get off that
first page and on to the second page. If there's someplace to
click, I can't find it. Can you help?

Sometimes romantics make the best proprietors--especially in Venice!

Perhaps it is in the big white rectangle? Or perhaps he means the photo
pages. I wonder if the rates are mentioned somewhere?

I think the reference to Lido makes it perfectly clear that the OP
knows what they're talking about, and it's perfectly clear that he/she
is referring to Venice - Mestre, on the mainland:

Which seems to be more than you do.
Venice was an Island until the last century when a bridge was built to the
main land. It was founded in the lagoon in order to give it some protection
from the horrors on the mainland after the dissolution of the Western Roman
Empire, most notably the incursion of Attila the Hun.
It does not have, as the OP curiously suggested, a downtown or a modern
city.
<<and it's perfectly clear that he/she

Venice is also the provincial capital of the province of Venice, an area
which takes in Mestre amongst other places.
Mestre is included in the commune of Venice but is not a part of the city.
It is misleading and naive to lump Mestre and Marghera in with Venice as
they are industrial towns.
A quick look at the description of some of the hotels in the link you
provided will illustrate my point since they describe their location as in
Mestre, near Venice.
A corollary of this is Ryan Air's claim to fly to Venice when, in reality,
they fly to Treviso, a considerable distance from Venice in a different
Province.

I couldn't find any pages with any content at all. But I just
realized what the problem was. When I turned off Popup Cop, the
content appeared.
The apartment looks very nice. The web site is terrible.

Err, yes, that was the point. "Wierd travelers" was making a helpful
suggestion of somewhere to stay - "downtown Venice" may be an odd way
of describing Mestre, but *I* could understand what they meant. *You*
just seem to be trying to score points and make smart-arse comments
along the lines of "not the Venice in Louisiana". (I'm paraphrasing,
if that's not obvious). If I've misunderstood and you *are* actually
trying to be helpful: my apologies.

I must confess that the reference to "downtown Venice" completely threw
me. Not the tourist part confused me completely since I think of St.
Marks as "downtown" or central Venice. I did figure that not the
tourist part implied somewhere on the extremity but didn't think that
was very helpful.
