If you're leaving from Spain, it shouldn't make a difference. It was
going to Germany from _non_ Schengen countries where the passport
scrutiny has increased.

I pretty much got waved through at MUC the other week, as opposed to the
usual deep scowls and careful examination at FRA or DUS.
However MUC T1 had the lovely shoe carnival at security. I'm going to
start flying wearing flip-flops soon.
They had a good long look when I came back to LHR as well.

They do it for fun I think!

Really? I've never had my passport scrutinised there or any other UK
port of entry. I've noticed they at least look _inside_ the passport
now! :)

I think they do it because the DL flights go from the same area as the
BA flights and the Merkins insist on Shoe Carnival.

It was even run through some swipe thing!
It is getting tatty with an impressive number of stamps, although hardly
any for "interesting" places.
This is true, the days of going back into BHX, by just holding it up are
over.

A few months ago I embarked on a three-week international itinerary. My
old passport was getting short, but I expected to be home a month or
more before it actually expired. My trip involved five airline
check-ins and at four of them the agent remarked upon the expiry date of
the passport. My last stop on the way home was in Britain and I went
through pass control at LHR. At that point my passport was valid for
another five weeks and three days. Nevertheless, the immigration
officer--who _pretended_ to look inside the passport--granted me leave
to remain in the UK for 90 days!
cheers,

From Amsterdam to France, there was no checking whatsoever. In Germany
there wasn't either. Sit in first class, cover it up, and you should be
ok. Although I don't recommend it.
Use the advice of not having it on you, but somewhere on the train.
