It only works as long as the the tinyurl.com webserver is up. If one
day the company who runs the server goes bankrupt or decides to stop
the service, all your bookmarks will become data garbage instantly. I
wouldn't make valuable information (which bookmarks might be) depend on
some outside service I have no control over. Browsers can bookmark URLs
of any length, there's no need to do this. Admittedly it's neater for
the formatting of usenet posts, but even there it can hurt. Imagine
someone going through usenet archives in years to come, and the posted
links don't work because the tinyurl service has disappeared. (Same
goes for "makeashorterlink" and similar services)
