This is too funny . . .

I don't know if this is true or not -- I found it in another newsgroup --
but it is too funny to pass up (apologies to non-English speakers unfamiliar
with vulgarity in English):
LONDON, (AFP) - British tourists have left the residents of one
charming Austrian village effing and blinding by constantly stealing
the signs for their oddly-named village.
While British visitors are finding it hilarious, the residents of
F---ing are failing to see the funny side, The Sunday Telegraph
newspaper reported.
Only one kind of crimimal ever stalks the sleepy 32-house village near
Salzburg on the German border -- cheeky British tourists armed with a
sense of humour and a screwdriver.
But the local authorities are hitting back and with the signs now set
in concrete, police chief Kommandant Schmidtberger is on the lookout.
"We will not stand for the F---ing signs being removed," the officer
told the broadsheet.
"It may be very amusing for you British, but F---ing is simply F---ing
to us. What is this big F---ing joke? It is puerile."
Local guide Andreas Behmueller said it was only the British that had a
fixation with F---ing.
"The Germans all want to see the Mozart house in Salzburg," he
explained.
"Every American seems to care only about 'The Sound of Music' (the 1965
film shot around Salzburg). The occasional Japanese wants to see
Hitler's birthplace in Braunau.
"But for the British, it's all about F---ing."
Guesthouse boss Augustina Lindlbauer described the village's
breathtaking lakes, forests and vistas.
"Yet still there is this obsession with F---ing," she said.
"Just this morning I had to tell an English lady who stopped by that
there were no F---ing postcards."

I don't know if it's true either, but there's a funny story not
unrelated to the issue-

Oh, I thought you didn't believe the signs were being _stolen_. The town
has certainly been mentioned here before. Was it the news report that
referred to ****ing as F---ing, or was that you?

It was the news report or, at least, the copy that I saw in the other
newsgroup. I don't doubt that the signs are stolen; I hadn't heard of the
town before and found the quotes in the article a bit too neat. I loved the
quote at the end:
"Just this morning I had to tell an English lady who stopped by that
there were no F---ing postcards."

Hi Alan,
For such long links, you can use the programme "TinyURL". It shortens the
long address into a tiny one. So, the one you posted, using "TinyURL" would
become http://tinyurl.com/dfq7t. Don't worry; it will take you exactly to
the same page.
The way to do this is very simple:
1) Open the programme http://tinyurl.com/ and type the long address in
the field "Enter a long URL to make tiny".
2) You will get a short version INSTANTLY!!
Isn't it brilliant?
C ya,

Actually, its even easier than that. I have the Tinyurl link saved in
my favourites.
If you're already at a page with a very long URL, clicking on the
TinyURL link in favourites automatically takes you to the Tiny URL
page with a tinyurl already created for the page you just came from.
Don't have to type the long URL in at all, or even cut and paste it

It doesn't do that with Firefox. Which browser are you using?

Yeah, well, actually that's what I wanted to explain to Alan, but you've
done it better than me ;o) so thanks a million! Mind you, I've also got the
TinyURL page that automatically turns the long address into the short one
saved in my Favourites. I just gave him the link to the TinyURL homepage,
not to the "create" one... which BTW, was also veeeeeery loooooooong ;o)
