if you knew the ELD better, you would realise how accurate the photo
from the Tiger Moth is. Or this one of Blencathra
"http://www.lawn-mower-man.co.uk/blencathra.htm"
Any hillwalker can "fly" round the ELD and not get lost on simple
immediate visual recognition, right down to footpaths.

the ELD is arial *photos*, no quotes are needed

You are sneering actually. Its a mistake to pick up Martins know it
all condescending attitude to anything and everything.

how very condescending. Actually MS put a lot of effort into the
flying side. For a modest PC application its quite good. Nobody thinks
its a pro flight simulator, or did before you started sneering, but it
(with addons) is remarkably realistic in the scenery area.

Oh dear. It's more accurate than a picture of a a few green triangles.
I'll agree with you on that.

I can navigate my way on google earth by following rivers, footpaths,
railways whatever. It still doesn't simulate being suspended 400 feet
above the earth's surface.

No, the programme is manipulating photographs heavily. That's why it's,
well, not a photograph,

If I'm condescending for saying that looking into a screen and seeing
poor resolution graphics of computerised drawings of landscapes and
buildings is not a bit like flight simulation, then so be it.

It's as a counterargument to any notion that it has anything to do with
flying.

It's especially not at all like real flight. With the spare time he has on his
hands maybe Mike might like to try the real thing or even gliding?

There must be somewhere near you? There is a list here
http://www.touristnetuk.com/NW/manch...ying/index.asp
I think I would take up gliding if I was in UK, but not hang or para- gliding.
AFAIR the nearest place I could have gliding lessons is a couple of hours drive
away.

And it looks nothing like a photo- more like an OKish graphic.

it's not accuracy, it's realism. You could have a beautifully accurate
pencil drawing, and recognise the feautures, but you still know it's a
pencil drawing, beautiful though that may be in its own right.

It's relevant, because the quality of the image (and google earth is
pretty good in some places) doesn't make the experience suddenly
'realistic' of anything.

Which doesn't matter, given how non-realistic it looks.

There must be plenty, but it's one of those things I'd love to try, and
may very well never get round to it. There were plenty in Edale one of
the times I was there.

Only when they run out of fuel
You can glide from what is left o the old marine airfield two miles away, but
AFAIK you nee own glider and a license,There is another glider site about 5
miles away in the dunes but the same thing applies there too.
I have a retired ex-colleague who must be 70 now, who does acrobatics in a hired
Pitts Special at Lelystad airfield.
Maybe this one
http://www.zap16.com/lelystad%202004...l%20N196JR.jpg
.
3750 reports of dangerous situations at Schiphol in 12 months. In 2008 they
promise to tell us what they were!
